 Post subject: transmission flush - how often?

In a previous post I reported a problem I was having with the transmission on my 05 CRD failing to shift into overdrive. In the last month this has happened on two occasions and the problem disappeared on a restart. It set the P0700 and P0725 codes which indicate a TCM failure and/or a engine speed signal failure from the ECU. The manual indicates that this is probably a wiring problem since it's not constantly setting these codes (turning on the CEL).

Anyway I decided to take the vehicle into the dealer and set up the appointment this morning. The service writer tried to talk me into a transmission flush and fluid replacement to the tune of $150+. When questioned, he said this should be done every 30,000 miles. I don't have my manual at work but that seems like a very conservative schedule (aka revenue stream). He alluded to the fact that because they have no record of this fluid replacement/flush being done at 49,000 miles he would try to get the repair covered under the powertrain warranty. But he couldn't say for sure that it would go through. After hanging up I remembered the F-37 recall that was done last summer so I called back and told them not to do the flush. So I have two questions.

1.) Since this is my first modern Jeep is this really something that needs to be done every 30,000 miles?
2.) Is it possible to do the F-37 and NOT replace (what is it?) 15 quarts of fluid?

As stated in your owners manual ( :idea: idea: read thru it for more info), that is determined by operating conditions, offroading and similar dusty\dirty requiring more frequent service than, say, all hiway miles

Also, your service-repair sheet from the F37 event should detail what was done what was replaced - could have been just the reflash, so you'll need that sheet to get all your ducks in a row

I wouldn't settle for a flush, anyway - if you're having transmission problems, they should pull the pan, do an inspection of the oil and filters and see if anything is in the pan other than slight friction material from normal wear
