I have Saturday the 10th out as I will be running a big event down here that day.

Adam, Chris and I got shorter shock mounts (Part # WAR101) since the current ones hang down too low and scrape the rocks. You should see my right rear shock mount all twisted. The mount is a universal one with a "smaller" profile. Al has these as well I believe.

Al, that will actually work a lot better for me, since the wife will only have to be away from the house and the doggies for the evening of the M&G. I am always just missing that stuff coming off the blades.

got pics? Who makes that part? I see the P/N but who makes it? I'm checking out your web site for pics now, but don't see any.

What do you do, torch off the old mount and weld on the new one?

Adam,

To see the new shock mounts go to my car domain web site:

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/705686/5

I cut off the old mounts ground the inside weld flush with the axel tube, and left about an 1/16 of the weld on the inside (closest to the drum) weld sticking up. Than I welded the new shock mount towards the drum with the inside mount portion of the new mount on top of the 1/16 weld of the old mount.

Stay with me, I am having a hard time discribing this....by putting the new mount on the old weld, this tilted the new mount ever so slighty towards the drum. This allows the shock to be slightly off perpendicular towards the drum. So far so good, the new shock mount is protected by the drum, is closer to the tire, and hasn't hit anything yet!!

These mounts will work on lifted KJ's only. Since they are about 2 inches shorter than the stock, use stock lenght shocks with your lift.

Ok any other questions, I am only an e-mail away. As always my advice is free and worth every penny!

Al

Al,
I think I understand. So you relocated the new mount closer to the tires by the width of the mount (welded the inside edge of the new mount to the outside edge bits of the old mount). Right?

The created the slight angle you mentioned. Very interesting.

What I also find interesting is that when your shock was torn off, the spring wasn't affected (ie, it didn't fly out), right?

I had a trail guide tell me that's a risk. If shock mount goes, then spring can come flying out. Didn't seem right to me. And looks like you lived through it and he was wrong.

Were you able to drive home, albeit in a bouncy ride, when that happened?

The shock went first, next big hole and the spring went! Just flew out onto the trail. We hi-lifted the KJ, put the spring back in and had a guy with tie down straps wrap the strap around the axle and upper tri-link mount to limit the axle travel.

I limped off the trail, found that they locked the gate to get out, used mull end of by ax to gently pound the hinges of the gate away from the gate, openned the gate drove out, reinstalled the gate. I think they are still trying to figure out how I got off the trail!

Once on the road, I found a gas station, that was willing to charge me some big bucks to reweld the damaged mount. The shock was bent, and when it straighten itself out it still worked! Old MAn emu shocks, they are pretty cool!

So all in all, between the cost of the ride, gas, welding, new shocks, new mounts, and the rental of a lift, plasma cutter and a mig welder (from my buddy), that little off road adventure cost me close to $500.00. That hurt the most!

Al

OOOOOOOH! so the spring did come out! I guess it comes out due to unlimited axle travel. You said that I think.

hmm. Maybe htis mod is necessary!

Well, AFAIK the 10th or 11th works for me, but prefferably the 11th, since i usually work on Saturdays. It actually may end up working out for the better as my dad only put the order in for my Frankenlift a few minutes ago. Hopefully we will hear from them sometime tomorrow and they will get it shipped out. I love early Christmas presents :D

Ok gang. My lift was delivered today. :D

I have checked and rearranged my schedule. And now have the 11th off. Are we a go for this date? What time do you plan to start?

Thanks again Al

Savage

It depends on how soon it is shipped from Allj's. I ordered my lift from them on Wednesday November 9th. They didn't put it in the mail until Tuesday the 15th and it was just delivered today the 22nd. Thats one week from the ship date. I dont see Jerrsey being any sooner than Baltimore. You still have about three weeks. You should have it in plenty of time.

Ok guys and Girls,

Which day is better for everyone, Saturday, or Sunday!

Let me know, I have no perference.

Either way, I would like to see everyone there around 9:30. We will work until I can't stand or you need to go.

If we are doing the shock mounts that weekend, Sunday the 11th is my only option.

OK It looks like you will be putting up with me for two weeks in a row!

Sunday the 11th looks like the day!

I just ask that if you bring your own tools, please put some tape around the handles and sockets so at the end of the day, I don't wind up with some extra tools in my boxes! (I wounldn't mind that, but...and some of my tools are second and third generation, so I wouldn't like them visiting other's tool boxes).

I have two sets of spring compressors, but one is just about had it, so I will go out and get another set. Both air and electric impact tools are available.

Please bring drinks you like, and some to share. We usually order out pizza, or maybe chinese ofr lunch, and than I kick you all out just before dinner so I don't have to feed you!

Edgar, let me know if your coming, if you are, bring them NY bagels for the morning, I will have a pot of coffe on, and tea water. OJ also.

If you coming up Saturday night, let me know and I will get some info on the local hotels. I am going look into renting a propane heater to make it just a little more livable in the old garage.

For directions please e-mail me of PM me.

Al

Al,

I will bring some portable electric heaters if you want, assuming you have the extra outlets to pulg them into. Let me know and i'd be happy to bring them by, especially if it means we're not all freezing our @@$es off.

No, you do not need to go out and rent a heater. You are gracious enough to open your garage to us. We can take care of this. I will see if I can bring a Propane heater from work. If not I will rent one.

I assume the address on your business card is the shop :?: I can Map Quest it from there.
