I know that there have been lower ball joint failures, but don't remember hearing of upper ball joint failures.

Both the upper and lower are non greaseable and the you can't just change the boots if they get holes or tear. Whoever thought that this was a good idea was a Beavis. :x

I know they are of very poor design, that's part of the reason I have JBA upper arms with Moogs. I've had the lowers replaced twice under recall, and plan to replace them with some Moogs soon. Just wondering if anyone here has had the failures the article is talking about from an UBJ failure. I hadn't heard of that.

I don't think it's anything to worry about. my '02's got the OEM uca's, and despite my best efforts, are still in good shape at 106,000 miles. I've seen more 02-04 TrailBlazers with bad lower and upper balljoints than I have KJs. Wonder what kinda recalls are out for them?

The kid I got my ARB bumper from had upper ball joint failure! Of course he also had an OTT lift on which destroyed his upper ball joints, struts, etc. Ended up the right front UBJ failed and he wrecked when it let go, was only going about twenty when it happened. His father made him return the Liberty to stock and I got his OTT lift, :( front fenders, ARB everything    Oh he gave me the worn out Upper control arms as well
If it helps or matters mines at 101,000 miles and has had the lift for over 60,000 and still the stock UCA's, ..........well until next week

I just had a problem with an upper ball joint boot that was torn. I changed out just the boot itself instead of the entire UCA.
The dealer doesn't sell only the boot but you can take one off of an old UCA from a junkyard and replace just the boot.
Or you can buy a boot kit to get the boot. My joint was good and still well greased but it was good to change the torn boot before the joint dried out. You should check the boots everytime you lift the Jeep to rotate tires.
