How are those aluminum skids for sliding on rock? Some folks with aluminum canoes, for instance, find that the aluminum bites the rock and sticks. Or I guess, the rock bites the aluminum. Anyhow, that could make a difference with rock crawling if you get hung up a little.

Thanks for all the suggestions / help.

Say I did want to sell them - how much would they be worth?

Although, you did bring up good points. I'll pay for the small amount of gas I might save rather than a new transmission or gas tank anyday!!!

i paid $30 for my t-case skid and my kj came w/ the engine skid

I can't say for sure yet... My first serious trail ride will probably come next week.

Not to get all geology 101... but, I would say that it has a lot to do with the type of rock. Most igneous rocks will tear the heck out of anything. Sedimentary rocks will tend to crumble and maybe cause some abrasion.

I don't know for sure what type of aluminum was used... but there is a big span in terms of strength of aluminum alloy; MPa 200 to MPa 600. It looks to be pretty strong stuff; A friend who helped with the install joked that we were going to have an Isreali armored personnel carrier by the time we were done (ASFIR is an Isreali company).

Just do what I do.

Keep the skids, CHEAP insurance compared to gas savings.

Drive slower. Do the speed limit. really pisses people off behind you. Love looking in the rear view at some jerk in his Prius tailgating me (happened the other day, was GREAT) as he is trying to pass me and speed by me as i do 35 in a 35 zone. The Mercedes and BMW jerks are the best. They get really pissed when a chunk of mud comes off my KJ at the speed limit while they fly up behind me and get stuck obeying the law.

Change your driving habbits. It works and it will have a joyous effect and you will feel better about not being so green as those hipocrits are.

Like troy's sig says "My Gas Hog is burning the gas your hybrid saves..." or something to that effect.

Live life to the fullest. GET MUDDY!

I agree with Woody on the speed limit thing for gas savings. I have found if I keep my KJ under 2000 RPM's it makes a big difference on the highway.

My KJ went from averaging ~14.8 to ~18.7 just by changing the way I shift and following the speed limits more closely...

It's amazing what an extra 10mph on the highway can do for your gas mileage

All great tips.

Tire inflation, clean air filters Yada Yada Yada...

I just like pissing off Beamer and Mercedes owners. That alone is worth the price of gas.

on the highway my doesnt like under 2000 RPMs if I set it at 2100/2200 the speedo reads about 72/73 and it purrs, not sure of exact MPH since bigger tires but thats where it runs good at and I can pull 20 sometimes 21 out of it then with the cruise on of course
