Almost forgot: After Hurricane Katrina buggered up the fuel supply in the USA, the Department of Revenue (IIRC) gave a blanket authorization to use the red fuel in anything with a diesel motor, b/c that was the only fuel that was available. Heating oil and red diesel were announced to be the SAME FUEL as #2 ULSD in most markets.

I'd say that is the proof, at least for most of the USA. I don't particularly condone the action of using that stuff, but I will admit to considering myself with the prices the way they are. I'm choosing to re-build my biodiesel processor first.

Better to get arrested (yea right) for "stealing" a waste product from a dumpster than get caught dodging taxes like Wesley Snipes. The Revenooers don't take kindly to getting stiffed, but nobody gives two rips about trash collecting.

That did not apply to colorado, from what I saw it most gulf states and southern states.

Thats possible, I only know I was able to run it in my Jetta b/c I was in Florida at that time. Not that I needed to, I had enough fuel saved up from before the storm hit.

From what I looked at at the time florida had its provisions the longest.

Also, the way it was worded any fuel you bought before the end you could continue to burn, so if you went ahead and invested in some fuel oil you could lock yourself in at a cheaper price.........

all kinda wierd eh?

Not really. It's the government. By the time they announced that we COULD use red without fear of retribution, any potential cost savings were GONE. And even though Fl may have had more provisions and lasted longer after the refineries went down... The prices started north as soon as the wind stopped blowing. Never one to turn down a profit, Exxon and all their cronies were only too happy to claim "supply and demand" for their extortion.
