I'm by no means an expert. I'm going to take the other guys advice and work on it over a weekend. OldNavy is the pro at this. Just read back in the Post and you'll find pictures and setups. I'm going to take pictures and try to write down all the step I use to install mine. I hope to have it installed in the next couple of weeks.

Guys, here's a simple way to adapt from the 1" hose connections on the Provent to the 3/4" hose for the CCV system.

Get 1" ID nylabraid hose (available at nearly every hardware store), and a couple of hose adapters, 3/4" male pipe to 3/4" hose barb (available at least at Home Depot and Tractor Supply company).

The OD of the 3/4" male pipe is the same as the ID of the 1" hose - 1 inch. The 3/4" male pipe portion of the hose adapter will fit snugly inside the 1" nylabraid hose.

Cut a short piece of nylabraid, just long enough to go over the 1" connections on the Provent and the 3/4" pipe portion of the adapter, and add a couple hose clamps to keep them in place.

The 3/4" to 3/4" adapters are available as either straight or a 90 degree elbow, depending on your tastes and setup.

Ok got the provent yesterday in the mail. All looks good for a weekend install. Maybe I can get the wife to photo and write down the steps. I'm heading to the hardware store Friday to start getting everything I need. I'll let you know how it goes.

Heres a place you might want to check out for a CCV filter, before buying the Mann. Filter is cheaper and last about 750 hrs or about 3 times as long as a Provent. It also has a flow meter to tell you when the filter needs changing. I'm calling them tomorrow and getting pricing, may ask about a group buy type of thing for those interested. If I read it correctly it comes with hoses and fittings or they are at least available.

The small (4500) one would be about twice the size we need because we will have about 4 CFM. The filter should last 30,000+ miles vs 12,000+ on ProVent. Down side is filter replacement is a little more involved, about like removing the air filter on the CRD or any new car.

I just talked with Marty at Mid-Atlantic and the list for the V4500 CCV is $298.35 and with group buy of 10 we can have them for $179.01 + S&H.

The spare filter is $37.90 list and if 10 are bought our cost would be $22.74, which I think we should do because it should give us 6+ years without needing to order a filter.

Just before I posted this I was again comparing sizes of the units and they are basically the same size and the Racor should fit the same place a couple others have installed the Mann units. Durring this comparison I noticed that these seem to have by decription threaded inlet & outlets. I guess I need to call back and ask about that and post back here.

Myself I think the RACOR CCV is the way to go, because of the filter life and change indicator that offset the cost differential. $40 once a year for a Mann filter is kind of costly and will add at least $80 cost to meet the time when a RECOR will need it's first filter.

Ok guys I need feed back here.

Just talked with Marty and the CCV has to have 2 fittings ordered (they are o'ring sealed) and we can get them in 3/4" so we would not need to do any hose adapting. The adaptors are $12.30 each, after 40% discount that would be $7.38 each. This would have the total cost at $216.51 which would include the CCV4500 unit with one (1) spare filter and two (2) CCV 55251 fitting adaptors.

Once we have enough here that say yes, we each just call them at the 1-800-257-8133 ask for Marty and use our individual credit cards for the purchace. Once he has recieved the 10 orders he will process the charge and ship the filters.

This is the unit I want guys and I hope enough of you do also, so I can afford the unit. Also should I start a seperate thread?

The guys at Airnowsupply recommended using a check valve with the provent, so I got one with my order.

Can anyone shed some light on which line this should go into? ie the one from the ccv to the provent (to stop oil from the provent going back to the ccv/crankcase) or the one from the provent back to the air intake (to stop air from the intake going into the provent)?

Cheers

Andrew

The bottom line or check valve would be plumbed to either the Crank Case or to a container or ground. Unless you plan to drill and tap the oil pan then you have no real need for the check valve, but at some point you may want to plumb to oil pan so it is worth having the valve.

Thanks for the reply - the answer is also on Page 6 of this .pdf! You of course are correct too.

http://www.republicsales.com/MANN/Provent_Brochure.pdf

There's no other way to connect the drain back to the oil pan without drilling and tapping it is there?

Not unless there is already a place drilled, tapped and capped. I would get some type of container like a small plastic jar that you could dangle from the hose or just let it mark it's spot. I'm tempted to run a hose to the back of the Jeep and let it drip, I can always put a drip pan on the garage floor I guess. The problem is the stuff that drips out will not come of the cement floor in the garage, so I guess I will have to rig up a bottle. Then there is all the heat of the turbo, so I just can't hang a plastic jar there, so I guess I'll have to fix up a metal can of some kind. I may check about having a friend out at the dealership do a tap job for me. What to do, what to do???

I ended up installing my Provent behind the battery, cable tieing it in place. Couldn't be bothered removing the airbox to slot it in behind it near the brake booster/firewall. (Right Hand Drive!) That spot is awfully close to the turbo too and I was a bit concerned about the heat - there's no heatshield on that side of the turbo.

I found the easiest thing to do was to remove the pipe off the ccv, but leave that factory pipe connected to the air intake and then manouvering the open end to the top front of the engine (in front of the injectors/fuel rail). I then connected it to the 3/4 inch pipe I bought that leads to the Provent outlet with a 19mm Garden Reticulation connector. Works perfectly. Another hose goes from the CCV to the Provent. You just have to make sure you route them correctly over the top of the engine and then down so they fit under the Engine Cover.

I have a friend that is looking into seeing if he can do us some group buys on Provent CCV filter, AFE ProGuard 7 air filter and the famous FUMOTO Oil Drain Valve. His name is Greg and he's an Amsoil Dealer and diesel gear head and his business name is Lubracation Specialist. Greg said he would check it out and get back with me as soon as he could, but it may take a day or two. I'm ordering a drain plug from MOPAR Supper Center and havinging it sent direct to him so as to get the correct thread size for the CRD. The valve will have a nipple on it to allow for a 3/8" plastic drain tube to used to route it to oil container and prevent any spillage on the ground and from getting it all over your hands.

For those who haven't heard about the AFE ProGuard 7 air filter

If any of you have any questions feel free to call him at his toll free number listed on his website.

Ok I just heard from Greg about the Mann Provent for a GB of 20 units with the spare filter. The price would be $155 + S&H with I think is a pretty good price.

No word yet on the AFE ProGuard replacement filter or the Fumoto drain valve.

How this group buy would work is we would call our orders in and give credit card info and once the 20 orders are recieved from the two Jeep forums then the order would be filled and our credit cards charged. My guess is maybe a couple weeks at most before we have enough to call Greg, then another 10 to 14 days before we have the ProVents.
