Yea Pete,
Mine has done that a long time ago. Dont worrie, the sensor does noting but tell you if it is in 4 or 2 . I guess you can also add to the function, (4HI/2WD/what am I really in?)mine stoped working after a while. it just does not go on at all any more. too lazy to replace the sensor.

Same here to Jeep Dawg. I can think of better things to spend the $75 the dealership wants for the sensor on.

Anyone know if this sensor doesnt anything else besides light up lights?

What tells the computer thats its in 4low? Many things are changed when its in 4low.

The shifter tells the system when it is in 4wd HI or LO

The sensore only tells the display light to go on or off. that is it.

(Signcutter21)
YEP. better things to buy then the idiot light for 75 beans. LOL

That's ridiculous. That's $275 for labor. It's a half hour job. My tranny sensor was leaking fluid from it. Cost 125 for part and labor. It's a 75 dollar part also. Glad that you had the warranty. Hmmm maybe i'll call and see what it'll cost just for s/g of it.

later,
mike

My light popped its head in about 20,000 miles ago. I could careless though. Indeed the part is only $75 but it is really not worth it.

I can't believe they charged you that much for labor! That is a ridiculous amount.

Yea $75 beans is pretty steep for a freaking light switch.

Mine went out about 85,XXX miles ago and I was like, OH WELL. I know when I am in 4wd and 2wd. no big deal to me.

Well that $75 swith does more then just light up a light on the dash. When shifted into 4low it tells the BCM to disable the airbags and for the '02 KJ's (at least) it changes the computer programming for some more power when in 4low.

seams to me thats weird to disable the air bags, makes no difference to me, but you can still get in a big enough of a accident to set off the airbags. exspecialy if you lose control of the vehicle.

Well when I'm in 4low I'm on a trail and have slammed into rocks, trees with enough force that should have set the airbags off(I know others also that have hit very hard),I wouldn't want $1500 worth of airbags(and sensors/controllers) going off when there was no need.At 2-5mph it's pretty hard to lose control,it can happen but not very likely. The airbags only get disabled in 4low,not 4hi.

point taken. didnt think of that. makes sence now. i've hit some things pretty hard with my wrangler that probably would have set off an airbag. my libby is the first vehicle i've wheeled with an airbag so dont know how much force it takes to set them off.
