Above the transfer case & transmission is some "stuff". Some of mine was pulled loose Saturday while I was playing in deep mud. What is this stuff and should I get it replaced?

It's just sound insulation, will hold mosture/mud and can cause early rusting,I'd say just rip it out.I'll be ripping mine out soon to give a little more room for my Atlas t-case,I don't mind a little driveline noise.

If you wanted to replace it, check your local junk yards. That part should be readily available and cost less than what you would pay at the dealer parts counter.

I would keep it. But that's personal choice of course.

I noticed that it doesn't dry out very fast so I think it would be a good idea to pitch it. All the muddy moisture next to metal can't be very healthy for the KJ.

If you offroad alot in water and mud then I agree it could probably cause problems. Mine is prety clean and never really gets wet so I dont have a problem with it.

I believe its one piece all the way up the firewall.

If you want you can get some interior sound deadening material at lot of radio sound system installers, if you watch OverHauling on TV you'll see it used all the time. As far as parts from a wrecking or salvage yard most have told me that more often then not parts are already pre-sold before the wrecked KJ hits the yard quite a waiting list. 8)

Pull the carpet on the interior side of the vehicle, lay dynamat all over the tunnel and wheel well areas and then enjoy a quiet cabin for once... I dream of having the energy to do this project one day.
