Humm....

Well....based on the information contained here, I guess I'll leave the kerosene alone.

I remember using it in heaters when I was a kid. It is not dyed.

No they don't,all vehicles(that don't run on gas) uses JP8 fuel, from a HMMWV to a C-17 transport plane they all run JP8 now,no more diesel. The military is going to a "One Fuel" military, they even are converting the USMC recon dirt bikes to a 600cc diesel engine, get's 120mpg's.

Oh and the computer controlled diesel engines in the military stock are being replaced at a accelerated rate from running JP8.

Why would one want to burn hydrogen in an internal combustion engine? Why not use it in a fuel cell to produce electricity to power the wheels, leaving water vapor as the only emission?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrogen_vehicle

Ultimately, the solution to our fuel price problem is going to be a mix of different fuels and a different kind of transportation infrastructure. We might be able to get away with kerosene in the CRD's, but I doubt the next generation VW/Honda/Mercedes diesels will do very well on a steady diet of the stuff.

Read an interesting factoid related to this the other day. Ford estimates the Model T got something like 13 mpg city, 21 mpg highway, which would put it right in the ballpark with a 2008 Explorer. We've come a long way, baby!

Hayes engine mated to a Kawasaki KLR650 frame and tranny.

I am hopeful the military's fuel push will lead to some diesel modern outboard boat engines being developed as well. Lots of diesel inboards, but the only outboards right now and big bulky Chinese models that weigh a ton and are only offered in fairly small displacement.

Fuel costs are hammering recreational fishing here in the Northwest right now (where 4-5 mpg is viewed as great fuel economy in a boat). Bumping that up to 7-8 mpg with a diesel would be fantastic.

For what it's worth....

I bought 5 gallons of K1 for my heater. I used one gallon. I added the rest into a B100 tank, and drove it... in my Jetta.

It didn't die. However I don't think I'd run it straight.

Be careful if it's red....

google "Evinrude E55MJRL"

They are in-use and burn JP-4, JP-5, JP-8, Jet-A, Jet-B, Kerosene, Gasoline

check this out if you want to make some fuel. I have been running it in the 94 Power Smoke 7.3 Turbo at 50% no problems yet. Afraid to try it in the CRD just yet --just had the injector pump replaced under warranty so I am not to brave yet.

Diesel secret is just WVO and it can leave you sitting on the side of the road if it gels up. Another problem with WVO is carbon buildup "Coking" that can trash out your injectors on the newer diesels with the extra small holes. Old IDI engines have a pintail in the injector tip that helps it live longer with carbon build up and respond well to Techron tharapy. If you love WVO buy my old '71 VW converted to a turbo diesel or an old IDI Mercedes diesel, convert it to WVO and go for it.

With all of the Home Brewers at L.O.S.T. who can help you out, why screw around when you can have something like Biodiesel that works great in your CRD.

Steve

This crap is a ripoff, and will damage the CRD. Please do not do it -- you can make good biodiesel for the same price that will not ruin your engine.
