Quick question. I just found out I lost a light over on my roof OEM light bar. So I guess its off to find a new one. I wondered if anyone has lost these and knows of a good place to get an extra.

Also, does anyone have and good mods to keep these from falling off? Anyone ever attached a cable or some kind of line to keep them from getting lost??

Did u mean a "Cover"? or a light itself?
For the covers I just leave mine off.
There was a previous post about some kind of "Cover Keeper" system which basically consisted of tethers for the covers. I checked em out and thought they were kind of cr@ppy.

i used to put mine on and take them off once i got offroad or needed them.. used to crawl thru the sunroof to do it.. but thoes plastic things look more flimsy everytime i did it so now they are perm under my seat.. i been driving atleast a year w/them off.. the only thing weird is that a bird ran into them like a week ago.. i was just telling my wife last night about that.. he just flew straight at me and BOOM.. i checked them out no damage thank goodness.. :)

i been all over NC/TN and never heard of having to have the lights covered.. weird.. i been thru tons of checkpoints too.. with highway patrol and lights uncovered.

I can't believe you got pulled over!! I have never heard of that law. I wonder if its the same in Utah. Well I haven' t priced a new out yet. If I leave them off I wonder if the winter weather will harm the lights...

I guess I should just pick one up in case... but for now I will just leave them off until I get pulled over.

Aren't they bright enough? Try the 9006 bulb. That will fit.

I live in PA and leave my covers off. It's legal to do that here. It became a hassle to remove and put them on. I keep them in the back just in case I need to put them on. I know in MD they need to be covered unless you are off road. I'm not sure about other states.

No according to the Vehicle Code: http://www.dmv.state.pa.us/pdotforms/vehicle_code/chapter43.pdf
Scroll down to §4303 (f) for off-road lighting regulations.

I don't have mine on either; I keep them in the back.

Had a lot of idiots here who messed with the covers; guess they were curious. As I got into my KJ and closed the door one morning, one of the covers just popped right off down my windshield. Since then I left them off. I guess the idiots gave a light tug on the cover and when it popped right off they said, "Oh sh*t!" and set them back in place and ran.

Has anyone else experienced this...is this a common issue?

I've never, EVER had mine on. Knock wood - nothing yet. Yes, I can be pulled over for them. But it's OEM, so I'd plead ignorance.

But now that all you Renegade owners are reading, anyone want to trade covers for the clamps that hold down the roof basket? Or just sell yours?

I can't find these anywhere used! Found several broken ones used. Doesn't help me much. I've got 3 broken ones!

I live in a pretty horrible winter weather area. I had mine on and off for the first two years(mostly off) The lights have had no damage or problems. They have collected lot of bugs though.

If you want to get a new cover just go to your dealer. Should be a fairly cheap part.

Two of mine have chips in them. They both still work fine. I figure they're there to be used. I use them in an emergency or very dark situation so i like having covers off. IE, driving down a very dark street, often in bad weather, in the back country. Or just needing to see a quick address on a dark street. etc.

If they get broken badly, I'll either replace them or put the covers on then.

I was thinking about getting the covers painted yellow with the :) faces on them like KJ daylighters. Just a fond memory from my childhood. Otherwise, I think the covers on looks ugly. JMHO. 8)

(No takers on the basket clamps, eh?)

PS Oh yes, and the other day I used them to pull over a speeding teenager the other night as she blew a stop sign in my neighborhood, drove about 50mph down my street right past my house at 6pm (dark). I get SOOOO angry at this (common) because I have two very small children. So I went after her with my lights on. They got her attention. She stopped. I sternly asked her to not kill my kids. I think she nearly soiled herself. hehehe.
- One less speeder down my street, x more to go! (very scary)

Thanks! I heard somewhere that they didn't have to be covered. According to that, there is only a fine if you light them not if they aren't covered.

Jeep dealer quoted me $199.00 for my 2002. Said you need to buy the whole kit, they don't sell the covers separately. Let me know if anyone does find a place to get 'em cheap.

I'll swap my covers plus cash for anyone who's removed their Renegade roof basket and wants to part with the clamps that hold it on.

200 bucks for the entire lightbar? The cheapest I've ever seen it was more than $400. Does that include the installation?

The 200 is for the "kit - front & back". We THINK that what is meant by that is the mounting kit for the lights, but not the light bar itself. Should be the black plastic piece that the lights are mounted in. Looks like it's two pieces, a front and a back.
