The point remains the same.. Front-Rear 50/50 is still much better for off-roading than the Selec-Trac

of course the S-T should (should! :) ) function in basically this manner when in 4lo (=clutch paks locked down).

from what i understand, that is true.. in 4Lo it locks the front and rear, and i was assuming it's pretty much the same in that mode as command trac... They give a basic breakdown on their website http://www.jeep.com/en/4x4/how_systems_ ... ec_trac_2/

If you plan on using your Libby off-road, get Command Trac. Period. Selec-Trac is more for improved on-road traction on wet or snowy surfaces.. So if you're going to use your Jeep OFF-ROAD and you will be RELYING on 4x4 to get you through, pick Command Trac.

Fair enough, but IMHO getting a Liberty for primarily off-road use is like getting a Wrangler for primarily highway driving. They have different roles and a Liberty is a part time off-roader at best.

that's about exactly how i'd describe what i do.. not looking to do the rubicon trail, but there are many dirt trails out here in varying degree of difficulty.. the off-road capability is AMAZING, IMHO, considering the type of vehicle it is and the comfort it provides. in other words, as i see it, the libby is MUCH better at off-roading than the wrangler is at highway driving.. without question. and i've seen some libbys that'll give even the rubicon a run for the money. it's just a bit more $$$ for the necessary goodies :D i really do love the open air of the wrangler, and i nearly got one.. i just couldn't bring myself to drop $30k on a ruby... don't make me regret it!! heh.. j/k, i love my libby so far.. unfortunately, i don't even have skid plates yet, which makes mine pretty lame-o in the off-roading category :(

well have done lots of reading...... Seems to be that the Command Trac and the Select Trac both have three types of possible "gearing" Both have 2wd nad 4wd-Low. Then the command trac yes has the standard 50/50 split for 4wd-High, but the Select Trac has what is called 4wd-Auto it determines when a wheel is slipping and puts more power to the other wheels that have trackson. The Select Trac is similar to lots of other all wheel drive systems, but you have the option with the libetry to choose 2wd, 4wd Auto or 4wd Low. Looking at the diagrams it seems like the command track has a rubber gear while the select track as a chain for the gear....hmmm as long as it has 4wd Low it should be great to go off-road and yeah its not a wrangler, but its makes a better daliy driver and I'm no hardcore offroader.
