I noticed a few oil spots on my driveway yesterday. I crawled under the jeep and it looks like a rear main seal leak so it's off to the dealer before the warranty is up.

I don't remember reading about anybody else having a rear main seal leak so am I the first?

Gary

There's a suspicious bit on mine I noticed on the last oil change. Not enough to bother with... yet.

No rear main leak until F37 - then leaked a while - maybe a few weeks - then quit completely. :?

and they found several things leaking..

front pinion
rear diff cover (time for a Lubelocker gasket)
and the main reason I took it in..what I thought was a rear main seal leak was:
the EGR pipe (tube) (p/n 140890, fp# 5171787-AB) which they had to order so the Liberty goes back in Tuesday for the repairs.

Now I'm running the SEGR so how is it the EGR pipe could be spitting out this much oil? Doesn't the EGR system deal with exhaust?

Confused.
Gary

Maybe the dealer is confused.
I remember reading here that another owner thought he has a rear main
seal leak. He took it to the dealer and it turned out to be the oil drain tube
from the turbo.

So maybe the tech thought the oil drain tube was the EGR tube?

Not very likely to be EGR 'cause there is not oil in there.

Oil from your intake could be leaking past the FCV down into the EGR pipe, then leaking out at a seal. It would be a slow leak of gunky oil finally working its way past the seal.

Though if its under warrantee, let them deal with it and try not to get pissed about the slight inconvenience the repair will cause you.

sorry if I sounded PO'd, I'm not. I was and am confused about what they found as it didn't sound right to me and I did't get to talk with the mechanic that looked at it. I'm actually pleased that they found the front pinion seal leak and that will be fixed under warranty as well. I've only got 2500 miles left on the 36000 mile warranty so I'm taking advantage of it. And only 2500 miles until the Provent or EHM.

Gary (must remember to put the bi-pass plug in Tuesday morning)
