So I have a lift sitting in the shed, and the OE goodyears are about toast. But I am not sure I want to put the lift on and bump up in tire size when fuel is $4.50 a gallon!!

So real world, everyday, around town driving, how much mpg did you drop with 245's and a lift?? Stock everything else.

I put the OME CRD lift from AllJs on and love it. I also went with a 235/75/16 AT (Hercules Terra Trac AT) instead. I did not have to hammer down the pinch weld and the tires only weight about 3-4# more than the stock tires. MPG did not take a very big hit if any...but you do have to adjust your odometer readings with the taller tires (They basically give you a 30" tire vs the stock 29.2"). The OME set up rides MUCH better than stock. Below is a slideshow with some pics...honestly, this is how the CRD/KJs should be from the factory. (measures 47 1/4 from the ground to the lowest part of the side mirrors...measure both sides and average...that should give you an idea of how much lift this combo gives)

To lift or not to lift
well = the answer is what kind of driving do you do? I'm a form follows function guy.
if you're staying on pavement - you don't need it (yes I know they look a lot better)
if you're driving trails - I'd expect the stock tires to blow even if they had full tread (they're paper thin)

I lost about 3-4 mpg but I did lift/tires/ARB at the same time
tires can kill intown mileage and the aerodynamics of the ARB affect highway mileage
but I've been to Moab twice now - couldn't have done that stock

also as Darby pointed out - what kind of 245 is significant - stock tires are about 27 lbs/tire - the MTR's I put on were 49 - that's 20 lbs per tire
that's a huge impact for stop/go driving. You can find lighter tires - and Sir Sam's BFG Long Trails were rated one of the lower rolling resistance tires
(the report didn't mention MT's and I'm sure they wouldn't have been good)
