So I have been trying to follow the whole process that has been going on for a while and now I'm ready to take the plunge and get a lift pump (warranty just expired).

So at this point I am looking at getting either the in-tank or inline pump and keeping the factory fuel filter head. Has the general consensus been that the cummins lift pump is the inexpensive and effective way to go with this?

Can anyone clear up any differences in cost/benefits/etc?

Also if anyone has a link to an inclusive parts list necessary that would be great.

I went with the Carter Electric Fuel Pump that I bought before the Cummins in tank swap that GMCTD documented very well. Stan Wright used a Kennedy which is quieter than my Carter that thumps all the time it runs. Here is the link to look at my photos: http://picasaweb.google.com/warp2diesel ... m2KAF5CQRQ

With the one I did, Stan Wright's and Michael Oats, we did not need to drop the tank.

probably the biggest advantage is that the in-tank looks factory (well it is factory - just not for the Jeep)

OK assuming the pumps are equal... what is the cost difference for each once it's all said and done?

Other members have posted their costs in the threads for the intank conversion.
I heard the Kennedy costs around $200+ and there are others like FASS that cost even more.

Personally, I don't like Facet pumps, I changed too many on British Sports cars that died too young.
I saw worn out trucks go to the Junk Yards with working Carter electric fuel pumps, that I why I went with the Carter.

Installing the Cummins, in-tank, pump was not difficult, I was able to do it so it must be fairly easy. If you decide to go that way, I'll mail you the connectors needed to add the power and ground wire to your wiring harness.

The only issue people have been having is accuracy of the fuel sender. That can be handled in one of two ways, either swap the sender from the stock unit and possible add a bend to the wire arm, or put an inline 200 ohm resistor in the sending unit return so you can calibrate it after install.

I did the Kennedy Pump because it was very simple to do and didn't require a wiring harness purchase or dropping the fuel tank. I am 100% happy with it.

I work on vehicles on the side, if you would like one installed, I'm only a 7 hour drive from Durango in Colorado Springs.

The Carter is a more quality pump than the Cummins lift pump. I think most would agree.

I think the Kennedy is the way to go for top quality. I spoke with them on the phone and they gave me the low-down on design - these will basically last forever. They run perfectly silent and are also bio-diesel compatible.
I followed Stans advice and pictures. I made my own bracket, mounted it to the frame right next to the tank and tapped into the wire harness bundle underneath carpet on the driver's side. One of the wires provides power for 20 seconds of "ON" when the key is turned on and then it goes off until the engine has been started - then it runs continuously.
The pump was $200 from Kennedy Diesel. They were very helpful as well as Stan, the parts arrived on time, everything worked out fine.

Holding the new pump in the tank I determined that if the right half of the indexing tab were removed the pump could be positioned just like the original. It was easier then guessing how much to bend the wire or adding a resister. As GMCTD has stated, more then once, the guage sending units are identical  After carefully cutting off the right half of the indexing tab it was positioned just like the original when held clockwise  Further, as the retaining ring is tightened it pushes the tab clockwise against the stop in the tank. Once installed there's no way it will change short of getting rear ended by a semi  It's a easy solution and is plain to see what needs done with it in front of you. Just use a hack saw on the stright line and a coping saw on the curved line and don't cut in too far as that would cause a sealing problem.

I did the Facet lift pump like BlackLiberty.
All parts including pump and fittings cost about $60.
I even fabbed up a bracket for it to sit on.

Didn't have to cut any fuel lines or modify any wiring.

My cost was $150 for the Dodge/Cummins pump and I paid postage for the pins from a fellow list member. It was easy adding 2 wires to the existing harness. The only hard part was removing the back seat

Here's what FASS has to say, "I talked to Dan at FASS. They have done no kits specific to the CRD BUT he says it’s no problem to turn down the pressure for you on one of their pumps." The FASS is dependable and has a lifetime warranty.

I've always felt this was one of the cleaner Kennedy pump installs

I decided to search around the online OEM parts catalogs like the one at

www.wholesalemopar.com

in the listings in Fuel System / Fuel Supply / Fuel pump area, and all of them show a fuel pump for the 2.8L diesel for '05 and '06. This is in addtition to all of the fuel injection pump parts and fuel/water separator parts.

Now I am confused. Did Jeep decide to have a pump for the CRD as an afterthought and just put it in the parts lineup? Anyone research this before? I probably missed any discussion elsewhere since I don't get online as often as I would like and tend to miss things once in a while.

...there is no pump and never was. GMCTD covered this on another thread, I thought the same at first when I saw it months ago.
