I finally managed to sell the CRD. My eyes watered when I realized it had to go, I will miss the strong and comfortable easily driven KJ forever.

What I will never miss is the economy. I had the jeep for 7½ months, and just to give you guys over there an idea of how things are on the other side of the world, behold the following numbers:

Depriciation: ........ $13,125
Fuel: ...................... $4,160
Parts incl. oil:.......... $2,000
-------------------------------------------
Net loss:............... $19,285
That's $2500 a month.

My new car is an economical one, since we bought a house we needed more money. It's a Skoda Fabia 2001 TDI!

Behold:

WOW I didn't think it was possible for a used car to depriciate that much in 7 months. Seems that you really overpaid or got nothing for a trade in. Either way it seem you got put over a barrel.

We only read about those over here

Nice looking. Is it a hatch back or a station wagon? (Estate I think is what you call them) My last Jeta was a second half 1999 (A4 chassis) tdi and I AVERAGED 49.6 MPG for slightly over 114,000 miles. My son ownes it now and is enjoying the high MPG's  He also has a 99 Cherokee so his mileage averages out

I should have explained. The danish 4x4 market crashed after some tax alterations, even though they didn't affect the 4x4s which were already in the country. People just don't buy these things as much as they used to - AND jeep is a brand nobody knows and everyone runs away from it because they are scared of repairs :D

I had it for sale for 3 weeks and 1 guy called but didn't call back. I think I was just unlucky with timing and taxation.

Station wagon, 5 doors. I had a little run on the motorway and peeked at the trip computer which showed me 54mpg at 75mph. I'm satisfied with that :D

At 55mph it does about 62-65mpg.

LOL that would have brought a funny face from the dealer!

I did tell him about my "SEGR" mod, I should have pointed and said I had installed an electrical control unit which I would now remove (and take the ECU out) - he might not have found that so funny though ...

I enjoy your perspective.
Your new purchase is good.
Too bad the Jeep did not work out.

Indeed scandinavia. On a forum where you guys refer to which state you were in, I thought it was most appropriate to do the same :)

The Skoda will be used to boost my economy while I scout around for an old cj/wrangler v8 as a 2nd car :D

I heard something on CNBC Weds. a.m. talking about how much SUV's BBB value had dropped here in just the past 7 mo. it was roughly 20% if I remember correctly. Some dealers were beginning to frown upon or straight up refuse SUV trade-ins because they can't move (some of) them.

I'm shocked lately with the couple of used SUV's I've seen lately w/ temp tags...

That's interesting. I thought that wouldn't happen in the US. My car depriciated 33% in 7 months (well if you count the sale value at the dealer now against the sale value I had to purchase it for it is much less, 23%).

Another thing about it was that I bought it and only had it for 7 months. That was a very bad move, I should have kept it for several years, which was also my intent. After everything is said and done I'm glad I now have a very economical car which is also good to drive. Now I can begin to rebuild my private economy and start scouting for an old cj v8 :D

SUV's being like the black plague and not being wanted would make sense. What dealer would want to sit on a vehicle forever or ship it off to auto auction and get squat for it.

We might as well accept the fact that our Libbys are long term purchases. Fine by me. Since I live rural and not little car a real viable option for my gravel roads, farmland, and deep snow in winter, it's either live with the SUV/Pickup line or move to the city. Thankfully I at least get to take my company vehicle home with me most of the time... just drive my semi to the house and park. Nice having your business be "home" based.
