Once a i get another daily driver I might have to do this, everything looks so simple. I know it takes a great deal of work and experience. But your SAS is going to be the range i want, not like JJ's which if i remember, ran around 25-30K.

Has anyone gotten serious about an engine swap?

the guy doing the work wants to do either a dissel swap w/ turbo or a v-8? don't ask me how...i could go for a diesel swap though...

these are not to good pics but they work for now
when you see the coil overs you will notice two different color eibach springs...there was a long waiting list for the poundage i wanted in red so i setteled with the polished until the reds get in...that will be up with next set of pics

Just curious, are those suspension joints urathane? Or is there flex joints in there? It looks like it will be very stiff, without a lot of travel?

If they are stiff joints, you may want to add in some flex joints.

You might want to add a water pump to your "to do" list, hanging the front diff off of your WP pulley will kill the bearings/seals real fast.

Pretty sure the belt is just hanging there.

I was thinking the same thing about the joints and wondering if they were poly instead of flex. You can get some nice flex joints from RE but you will have to change out your link ends and it will add $$ to the project.

Really curious to see some pics of the front end stuffed up. Can you shoot some w/ the front end pushed up toward the frame as if at its upper bumpstop position?

well it's hanging on a cross brace we made...as far as the joint...i wanted to go with jonny joints but he said the were really loun and clangy>? not sure on the typ...i ask hiom about it and he said the are small shims in between the bushings and the bracket so it would have some room to move when flexing...

you thought that was off the water pump? really  come on you we would of did it off the a/c hoses...lol...no when i first saw that i though it was on the crank then saw the brace...

Yea i think a cat diesel engine swap would be awesome.

Oh and tom, as far as the gas comment goes, I'm just very bitter at the price, I know you've got to pay to play, but man why so darn much... (Retorical question)

I see some things that I assume will be addressed as the build up progresses, I never judge how something is going to look when it is only 1/3 maybe done.

Lot of work to do yet from the photos, plus I am not the one paying for it so full bore ahead on it James!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK so here's my $.02... (although with the current exchange rate it's worth far less)

Looking at what you have so far I have 2 questions about your 4 link setup:

-what are you using for rod ends? The setup you have there looks like the vertical travel would be fine but what about flex? Are there spherical rod ends or anything on there? (Just looks like bushings from the pic)

-I don't know what you guys used for measurement to find the instant center and whatnot for the front end but it seems a touch overconfident to not have at least the uppers or lowers of your 4 link be adjustable-length rods. I think it would be worth every penny twice over to get that 2-3 degrees of caster adjustment unless you're positive that it's perfect (which it never is).

Look forward to seeing the progress...

Instant center.... Am I back into drag racing? Ahhh the days.

This is out of my league, but I think some adjustability would be a good thing, even if it is not 100% required.

honestly i did want some adjustability in it and that will come...the object is to get it rolling and new arms will be getting fabed up with johny joints...remember i have a hand in the build and am telling the guy what i want...if somthings changes through that it is only because we needed another step some where or it is a mock up...now enough with this guy...i really don't care and it is turning my thread in to slop...i thank all for backing me up but yes i could see how to judge a pic and critasize...no more with that plz...if this goes west(WRONG) then start over...that simple...once it is right...then lets party :D :D

Thanx,
James, Possible Future SAS Liberty Owner

I can tell you that mine works like friggin mad. I am beating the snot out of it and having a blast. It handles awesome on and off road and drives like a dream. It is not a "perfect" vehicle but it is getting the little bugs worked out of it and continues to get closer to dialed in as time goes on.

I personally see some strange stuff going on in this build. That style 4 link front is uncommmon for a 4x4 and I think it is going to encounter problems w/ binding when flexing. I also believe that the use of long arms up front and shorter arms in the rear is going to cause handling problems.

Do I know for sure that it isn't going to work? No, I can only base my feelings on what I know about this subject and what I have seen work and what I have seen fail.

I can't wait to see it finished and I hope it shakes out Ok and works well. Good luck.

So is the whole idea to have the same length lower control arms front and rear for handling? The front setup seems pretty close to an xj. I dont see why that 4 link setup wouldnt work well as long as it has a good trac bar. I have to say good luck as you know its going to be a learning process no matter how many builds you have done.

It looks a little funky, but I'd guess it'll get down the road. Might shimmy as little, god knows mine did until we got it dialed, but it is what it is...having said that, dude, seriously, build some adjustment into the final product. You'll be happier in the long run.

You want perfect, don't mess with what the Corporation gave you ;) Otherwise, cut her up and see what happens.

Good luck, man!

yeah alittle... waiting for it to go to the exhust shop to fix the down pipe from hitting the front drive shaft...she standing on her high heels now...total lift about 8 inches...now we can do the trac bar bar and conect the steering...also make the rear longer control arms...waiting for the brake lines to be finished as well...not too much left...will have pics soon...
