I just mounted 4 new Bridgstone Revos 245/70/R16s on my stock rims. Looooooooooooooooooooooooooovem!!

I couldn't bare the thought of throwing away a brand new un-used 215 spare that still has the paint lines on the tread. The Mavis guy said I can't use that spare with my Revo's, he said it would ruin the diff. Is that true? I would only use it temporarily and only in 2-wheel drive mode as a spare but not if there is a chance it will hurt anything.

Your new 245/70s are slightly taller than the 215/75s you took off the Jeep. So, if you use your stock spare on one side, it will be spinning faster than the 245/70 on the other side.

If you have an open differential this won't be a problem. Not preferable...but not a problem. If your Jeep was built with the Trac-Loc rear axle, then yes it will cause harm because it will constantly be slipping the limited slip clutches in the differential.

I would recommend taking your new spare to a store that takes trade in tires and trade it for another 245/70 if you have the Trac-Loc rear end.

Yes, what he said. Also if you have the Selec-Trac transfer case. Running in full time with a smaller tire will dammage the xfer case.

maybe ya should just get one more rim while you're gettin that one extra tire, and keep the smaller spare in the cargo area for BAD emergencies.

or just give me the old spare, i'm open to charity:)

We have a Big O Tires store here that takes trades. Or maybe you could look for a Goodyear Tire dealer...I hear many of those will take your tire in on trade if it's brand new.

Aw, c'mon guys... just think for a second.... just put the spare on the FRONT (unless you've got a LS or non-disengageable locker in there which I highly doubt), and use it to get to get to a tire shop without 4WD and you won't be damaging anything.

You CAN get by for awhile without replacing the 5th tire... the only downside is that if you get a flat in the rear, you'll need to move a (matching size) front tire to the rear and then put the spare on the front.... and you only have to worry about that if you've got some sort of LS or locker in the back axle.... if it's an open axle, no problem.
