I've seen a few threads around on how to retrieve OBDII code without a scanner, and i can't, for the life of me, seem to get them to display when using the on-off-on-off-on trick. My libby is an '03 and when i run the dash through the diagnostic (hold down O/D reset while turning key) the last number to pop up is 1.4. Does this mean i have version 1.4 of the dash software, i think i've seen guys with as high as 6.4 or something. If i can only extract the codes with updated software, how do i go about doing it?

Thanks

I think you turn it off 3 times, not 2. So its, on-off-on-off-on-off-on.

hmm, thats odd. works great on my 04. Are you sure your going all the way to the on position, not acc(turning the key backwards)? Do not start the engine 3 times, just to the On position when the dash lights come on and everything.

Is your Jeep doing something funky or is this for curiousity's sake?

It has to be done pretty quick like in under 5 seconds so don't wait for all the dashlights to light up and don't go all the way back to lock postion
just click it back and forth fast
worked on my 96 dodges ( which is when I learned about it) and works on my 04 so I guess it should work on any DC vehicle.

it's just for curiosity's sake, and i don't start the truck, or go only to acc. I go from on to off, ending at on three times, passing by acc. put never going to start. Should i just flick it between acc. and on? it doesn't even take close to 5 seconds, so i know it's not a speed thing...Has anyone here done it with their '03, and guys with the '04's, what software version is diplayed when you run your dash through the diagnostic (hold down odo. reset while turning key to on)?

Thanks
