Not neccesarily going to work because Diesels have a return line for fuel, and this does not account for the returned fuel.

That's one of the things that stymied Consumer Reports when the tested the CRD. (I know an engineer that works there). I often chide him that he got it way wrong in his report. Whenever we hang out I have to diesel-smack him. but to be fair, he gives me the inside scoop on upcoming diesel models from all th manufacturers (which, sadly, isn't too many).

they do not care is the answer reporting the CRD got real life 11mpg got them wide media attention, that leads to a larger subscription base.

DC should have sued them but instead like many companies is afraid of "editorial revenge'

wait, to be clear the CR guy did know about the return. But they are used to adding on a device for monitoring REAL TIME consumption (easily done on a gasser), so they built their own rig to try and do this but it got cumbersome. They still claimed that their test was accurate. I still rib him for it.

Both the EVIC and the scanguage provide similar functionality. Of course folks say the EVIC is optimistic and the Scanguage likes to reboot your TCM.

If you had a fuel pump that supplied a consistent fixed supply of fuel, then
you would only need to measure fuel flow through the return line.
Supply rate - return rate = fuel used

Doesn't work with our CRD however. But might depending on type of lift
pump intstalled.

But, it you knew the exact flow rate of the fuel injector, and could measure
the duty cycle of the injector (on time), then you could get an accurate
measure of how much fuel actually goes into the engine.

Something that I've been doing lately along with calculating my MPG every fill up is using the timer on my EVIC to calculate gallons per hour is addition to MPG's... last fill up was 23 MPG & 1.32 gallons per hour 50/50 city highway driving

Very true on the "editorial revenge". Consumer Reports tried to ruin Suzuki during the Samurai lawsuit with their editorials. When the case was settled Consumer Reports claimed a win because they did not have to pay any money and never admitted that they signed an agreement restricting what they could write. Suzuki claimed that they won because Consumer Reports could never write about the Samurai test again unless they admitted that they “misconstrued” the test of the Samurai.
