FYI, for those in the Northwest, Schucks auto supply has started carrying 5w40 Rotella. Nice to have a non-Wal Mart option.

Now if only they would carry Wix or Purolator filters...

Threeweight,
Go to fleetfilter.com, order over $125 in filters with your friends and get 15% off. I use the Wix/NAPA fuel filter with the 15% discount it is about $18 after shipping.

Looks good, those are the same good trends I noticed after disabling my EGR.

I have a PM sent to you in regards to a previous Blackstone analysis on my 2005 Liberty CRD.

Thanks !

I used Amsoil oil and air filters(w/ about 12K on it and recently shop vac'd) 6K on oil and it was Mobil 1 5W40 Turbo Diesel Truck oil I changed it myself. The only thing I can think of was a couple hard/cold starts in that cycle. But I did see on other post in this thread w/ similar high Magnesium count.

which would be a previous one of yours?
The analysis was the second done by the same lab AV Lubricants

from bobtheoilguy.com "Boron, Magnesium, Calcium, Barium, Phosphorous, and Zinc: These metals are normally from the lubricating oil additive package. They involve detergents, dispersants, extreme-pressure additives, etc."
http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/whatisoilanalysis.htm

and I found the VOA on 5W-40 is: cSt @ 100ºC 14.9

Sorry for the confusion.
for the first test:
6K on oil, @ 18500
Mopar oil filter
probably had a FRAM air filter
Oil per the dealer was Mobil 1 5W-40 because it was required for the Jeep GC SRT8
for the second test:
6K on oil @ 36000
The oil filter was a new Amsoil only used for 6K
The air filter also Amsoil but has about 10-12K on it, but I had recently cleaned it.
The oil was Mobil 1 5W-40 Turbo Diesel Truck oil.
I am going to call Mobil 1 and find out if the additive package is different.

After following up w/ AV lubricants on the high Magnesium count they said: “look at the additive metals Boron and Molybdenum as they have changed significantly which may suggest an additive package change.”

Magnesium first test: 23 second test: 341
Boron first test: 150 second test: 56
Molybdenum first test: 89 second test: 12

This is my first UOA, ever. Got it from Blackstone Labs. I feel good about the result.

COMMENTS:
DARREN: Universal averages show typical wear levels for this type of engine after about 6,200 miles on the oil. You ran this oil only 5,000 miles and wear metals read low, as expected. Silicon was the only element out of line, but at 10 PPM above average we are not going to complain too much. Since engine wear looks good, we think the silicon is harmless. The viscosity read normally for a 5W/40, and the TBN read 7.8 showing lots of active additive left. You mentioned that you might be interested in longer oil use, well if you go towards yes, we suggest trying 7,000 miles.

Miles on unit - 49,970
Miles on oil - 5,000
Oil filter - Wix

Boron - 41
Silicon - 27
Sodium - 4
Calcium - 1176
Magnesium - 833
Phosphorus - 1043
Zinc - 1232
Barium - 0

SUS Viscosity @ 210 F - 72.0
cSt Viscosity @ 100 C - 13.47
Flashpoint in F - 420 degrees
Fuel - <.5%
Antifreeze - 0%
Water - 0%
Insolubles - .3%
TBN - 7.8

I was running ORM for the majority of this OCI, and got the GDE tune with about 1,000 miles to go on the oil. I installed my EHM when I did this fill-up of oil as well, though that shouldn't affect the UOA. MAP sensor was only oily when I cleaned it doing the fill up for the oil.

I will get an analysis on my next OCI, and also check my MAP sensor for increased soot. That should give us a good idea of EGR restriction on the GDE tune.

Having seen may UOAs on other diesel forums and guys using dino oil at up to 20K change intervals, I've come the the conclusion that the recommended oil change interval of most cars is bogus. So since the recommended oil for this pup is expensive synthetic (or in the case of Rotella- T - semi-synthetic), I decide I was going to extend my interval with UOA and see how 10K looked (I worked up to it on about 3 intervals). The UOA is below and it looks good. Right now, I'm going to stick with 10K. I wish I could run 15W-40 in this thing (probably could) so I could just have one oil in the garage. Plus Valvoline still makes CI-4+ 15W-40.

Miles on unit - 56000

That looks great for 10,000 miles. I'm currently at 8,000 headed for 10 before I drop this oil. Seeing this makes me want to wait longer. TBN is still excellent.

I stocked up on the same CI-4+ oil you're using before the CJ-4 stuff came out.

What is your climate and driving routine?

We live in North Georgia. Relatively hot in summer (not like south GA, where I'm from) and mod. cool in winter. Wife drives the truck 99% of the time and she drives conservatively. It tows a 6X10 flat bed trailer converted to a canoe/kayak trailer a few hundred miles a year. Rarely goes on road trips. EHM since about 8K and ORM since about 15K. Driven about 20-30 miles a day. F31'd, no F37

This was pretty much the last of my stock of ci-4+ so I'm hunting now.

OK, just to start the thread rolling into a debate and forgive me if I missed a post but I read through some of these on my lunch break
But has anyone done a comparison: Rotella T vs Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Oil?
Full synthetic of course.
