June issue has a writeup on the CRD - page 176 (not listed on the cover or the index? - maybe a last minute add?)

installed a K&N, Magnaflow, Edge module and gauges (picture of the installed gauge cluster - no pix of the EGT mount)

before and after dyno
102.9 hp, 202.6 tq baseline,
153.5 hp, 264.6 tq after mods

I found it interesting that they touched on the F37 issues in the writeup but didn't mention anything in the build, only "off the shelf" upgrades.

I read that a few weeks back, great little article, but disappointing stock dyno numbers. If those numbers are true, even the F37'ed turds such as mine sitll tow pretty darn good. If I plan on to continuing towing, the Edge Module is in my future (Are you listening Santa?)

I've got the Edge module now, and let me tell you... When towing, it makes a BIG difference! I was pulling a 6x12 enclosed Haulmark that probably needs some fresh bearings (feels heavy to me) and weighed in the vicinity of 4500 lbs. Towing from Savannah, Ga to just north of Concord, Nh via Albany, Ny... I got a consistent 19-20mpg. I was traveling at about 70mph most of the time, and drafting where possible. Easy acceleration all the time, but I had to occasionally stomp on it.

With the module in "mode 2" for towing, It felt like the engine ran out of steam and couldn't accelerate any more on a couple of those times where I needed to push it. Flip the toggle to mode 3... And feel the power come online! It wasn't a huge boost, but it DID add to the power and the numbers would climb. As per the instructions, I did not leave it in mode 3, and anytime I stopped, I left the engine running for about 5 minutes to cool everything down. I don't have an EGT yet, but I'm sure extended running at 19psi of boost was warming up the turbo quite nicely.

Why can't you leave it in mode 3?
I doubt 19lbs is hurting the turbo since pre-37 (IIRC) we were pushing 26lbs

They highly recommend an EGT gauge when running in Mode 3 - probably dumps in enough fuel to melt pistons
(or at least overheat head gaskets)

Yea, thats what I'm afraid of. I have a SGII unit, with all the included computer glitches and transmission reboots... But it doesn't read the trans temp or the EGT, so I don't want to hurt anything when I'm towing.

Besides, on that trip I was also letting it idle while I slept a couple times, so I knew it was nice and cool by the time I was ready to go again. Better to let the oil cool the turbo than doing a hot-shutdown on it. I think the instructions for the Edge module were overly cautious, but I didn't want to push it without knowing the numbers from an EGT gauge. One of these days I need to get one of those.

Edge's horsepower/torque claims are actually very moderate compared to some others out there. Not saying an EGT gauge isn't a good idea, but their chip seems to be a little more conservative than some others.

I thought their numbers were a bit on the weak side too, especially considering the normal retail price. For that level of coin, I'd like to get a bit more bang for the buck. I can understand that in our lawyer-happy country they would want to be overly cautious... But give me a break. You are buying a power-adder. It is SUPPOSED to risk the rest of the stock drivetrain, thats why you don't keep the STOCK drivetrain with power adders! At least I got it for less than retail.

Anyway, I still have the stock Tq converter, and another 20k miles on the warranty. So until both are gone and I have a Suncoast (and hopefully an un-F37 done to the TCM and ECM) I will have to be happy with this module. It does what it claims, and thats all anyone can ask of a product. After that... Let the fun begin! I'm thinking Edge stacked on InMotion, Suncoast, and hopefully the pre-F37 TCM program too, if Kerma or someone else can break into it.

Edge and Inmotion do the same thing, alter the fueling parameters and do some boost fooling to get HP/torque up. Pretty sure they don't stack (or if they did, you wouldn't want to). The Edge tricks the ECU into thinking the fueling and boost going to the engine are lower than they actually are... Inmotion tune tells the ECU that more of both is ok. In combination I think you'd have a blown head gasket, melted pistons, and a trashed turbo in short order (if they worked together at all).

Watch Ebay for used power modules. I got my Edge for $225 bucks.

Hope you have replaced the aluminum bits inside the engine before you go stacking stuff. You could get a special surprise.
