Trying to by a good amercian with most of my purchases. I run biodiesel, etc. Try and buy clothes made in the US...ever look at your labels?

But which tires are made in the USA anymore? Cooper, I think? goodyear? Not Goodrich, from what I understand.

Pepboys is making a VERY tempting offer on Cooper Discoverer H/T. Are these any good?

Thanks in advance.

Ok so after 2 pages nobody gave this guy an answer other then saying this brand X sucks and brand Y also....

I run Cooper H/T because 99% of my driving is on blacktop and I am very happy with them. Good traction in wet conditions,

great treadwear! And they can take a beating offroad as well, but they are not made for that purpose.

MT's may look great...but at 50mph on a normal road you go deaf from the tremendous noise they make.

I cannot recomend any of them as they do not fit my driving style. I use Kumho 798 245/70/16 107H for driving here on the autobahns. Nothing else I could find with a good tread pattern had H-Speed rating. They are cheap and last about 16,000 miles with my very aggressive driving style oh and they have a UTQG rating of 400 They are made in Korea.

Cooper Discoverer ATR's 245/70 on mine. Greatly improved the ride and handling over the stock Crapyears, feels a lot more stable. Pumped up to 44 psi, no noticeable effect on MPG, no noticeable change in road noise. Good stout tire - if you ever have to go off pavement for any reason, they'll handle it.

At the local Cooper dealer, it was $450 out the door mounted and balanced.

FWIW, H/T's are 35 psi tires, ATR's are 44 psi tires. And the ATR's have a higher load rating. Higher load rating = less sidewall flex = less rolling resistance = higher MPG.

Have 4 different types of Coopers on 4 vehicles now - CS4 Touring on the MB, ATR's on the CRD, H/T's on my father's F150, Lifeliner GLS on my mother's '92 Mustang - excellent results on all counts.

Sounds like you've narrowed down to a couple makes/models. Go to tirerack.com and read the consumer reviews of those models and see how they rate. Folks here can give some insight into foreign vs. domestic, but asking which tire make is best on a forum like this is a "Ford/Chevy/Dodge who makes the better truck" kinda argument.

Not exactly true...... the Dunlop Radial Rover RT is a MT /AT hybrid and the road noise is eclipsed by the liberty wind noise in my case.

A monster truck mudder tire is a different story !

Just be on the verge of being legally deaf and have no worries about loud tires  .

Don't now why everyone can't stand a little tire noise, you want that rumbling from the exhuast but can't stand that lovely tire howl.Boggers are the best sounding tires on the road, nothing like that "woomp, woomp" sound that can be heard from a mile away.

Yeah, not worried about tire noise so much. Though my wife drives it mostly with the kids, I still took the engine cover off just to hear my baby pur.

Consumer reports tested several tires and the Goodyear Fortera HL was tested and topped the on-road list in general and in all the important catagories that we care about (stopping, handling...except road noise). So, for safety sake I would be inclined to go with a Goodyear Fortera. But TWICE as expensive? Of course, the little voice in my head says "Can you place a price on your family's safety" and my cell phone bill says "your wife talks too darn much in the Jeep....she needs every inch of last-minute stopping ability" I don't know. So far no-one has poo-poo'd the Coopers...and they ain't ugly or expensive.

Is there a time of year that tire places are desperate for cash (like auto-dealers in july/august)?

Hankook RT03???? I was/am real close to pulling the trigger on 4 of these in 245/75-16... My MTR's are too loud for me, not sure if the Hankooks are any quiter. I think some of it may have to do with the acoustic properties of the KJ... My old TJ had 32" mudders and wasn't nearly as loud, and the KJ tire noise seems to go down when I open the windows??? Anyhow... if anyone in the area wants some 245/75 MTR's with ~15K miles left on them (just to try them out) send me a PM...

BTW I thought a good portion of Cooper tires were made in Belgium or Holland?

Well, I'm going on what I could find but so far it seems most of Cooper is American. Of course, you have to check the labels on everything...
