from what i understand, the proper way to balance a wheel is with weights on both the inside and outside. looks pretty with no weights on the outside, but doesnt balance right. i dont really know much about it though, so hopefully someone will comment that actually knows something about balancing wheels since i really have no idea. thats just what i heard.

The best way to balance a tire is with weights on both sides of the rims. I personally dont run them on the outside, i have slight vibrations at higher speeds but they are not too noticeable. If you dont want the weights on the outside you could do clip on weights on inside and sticky's as your outside weights. The only problem that this poses is that the sticky weights are a PITA to get to stick on a off-road rig due to the mud and thick dust.

I have heard that many people dont even balance their tires when they get over 33". In most cases it all depends on the tire, rim, and operator. If you really dont want the weights on the outside you can static balance it, if it's still off at that point then through some BB's in the tire and that should straighten it out.

Jake.

Jake is definitely right, at least for people I know with 33"+ tires. You just don't see many DDs with tires that size, so people don't care. I mean, if you want your trail rig to handle like a caddy on the road then you got a lot more to worry about than tire balancing.

Yes, everything i said was directed towards the folks with 31's +, normally it's not a huge deal. This is not the case for your high-performance/touring vehicle. Two different worlds.

that jeep is AWESOME!! i'm very very jealous. there is a really good tire shop around my house that balances tires and also shaves them if needed. a lot of larger tires are slightly oblonged when made.. and by shaving it they make them round.. and there for reducing the amount of balancing needed. whenever they do the tires it rides like a caddy.

That does look sick! Funny though, you should mount the turret on your KJ...

As far as the wheel weights go, the front left... cant they rotate the tire a little more, and get some of the weights smaller? I don't know how that all works, but when I had some done on my car, the guys at tires plus were ripping on the guys that did them previously for not doing that. I had like 8 - 9 inches of weight on one tire, and the manager said they should have never let that go.
Just wondering.

Awesome Jeep - need to finish the 4x install to get good offroading pix.
and as for the wheel weights - cover with mud -instant color match.

(or you can do a felt tip marker to make them black)

Balancing 33"+ tires is not fun, most of the time large amounts of weight is required no matter what even if you rotate the tire on the rim.One of my Trxus MT's(265/75) required 16oz of weight to balance out(outside edge) even after many rotaions of the tire on the rim, when mounted in other rotations it required much more weight.Big,aggresive tires are just like that that's why after 35"+ most don't even balance the tires.Try balancing any size of the Interco Bogger, just a waste of time.I got very lucky with my 35" Toyo's,they took very little weight but due to very strict tolerances from Toyo they are one of the few bigger tires that balance very easily.

IIRC, each of my 285/75/r16 E Trxus M/T's on soft 8's weighs like 122#?? I could just imagine what a 38" Bogger on a 10" wide rim weighs. Percentage wise, taking a pound of weight to balance something like that wouldn't be excessive ( it just sounds bad.)
