All I can say is great work guys. After looking at the photos it could have easily been a lot worse.

Sorry to read of your woes Greg and Jenni but good to see a safe ending. Those aluminium casings have a habit of that, the pinion climbs all over the crown wheel, there is a brace that is available to support the area around the pinion bearing to help prevent that happening. A SFA is another solution :D.
Quote"It's from McMaster-Carr pn# 60665k61, paid about $41 including shipping. You'll have to increase the inside diameter from 3.500" to 3.5625" on a lathe. Others have ground the i.d. with a dremel tool, but I recommend the machining."
There is a pic of it on JU, search in the liberty forum and it will come up in the thread "has anybody mod their KJ" by MUTTLY.[/img]

Thanks Roscoe. I'm now researching a replacement diff. with the greatly appreciated help from Foros. Whilst what you talk of sounds like a plan I will have to refer to my tool kit(CMohr) for intepretation

OMFG....Greg, I feel for you there mate. I always thought that if there was ever going to be an Australian KJer's front diff that grenaded it would be me or cmohrs.....I cant believe that, no locker and no agressive tyres!! Just goes to show it could be anyone anytime.

Bloody hell. For what its worth, good photo's! er or not?   :(

I take it the 'oops' faces are a reference to the appearance of my rear end in the photos?

Yeah Chris, So far Poly 4x4 $2200 + gst + freight $80 or an option Gerard has sourced in Melbourne $1650 + GST plus feight. I've done nothing further as yet.

Jenni is off to Perth to-nite for the last 2weeks of her long service. I guess I'll do some serious thinking into funding the replacement diff project while she away

darn... anyone wrecking kj's at the moment you could get one out of?

your other option is to come down to sydney... they're got to be like 5000 of them around here that have never engaged 4wd so they're not likely to miss a front diff ;)

Get a price with the CV's as well, as their splines will be already worn to match the output on the Diff.

Plus, I may need them, looks like my cv's are cactus........ Found that "CLUNK" in the front end
