I was wondering what needs to be done with the ESP when in the mud and installing a locker.

nothing
with a locker both tires turn at the same rate no matter what so ESP will think you have good traction
what locker are you looking at?
also why would you spend the money to put in a locker if you play in mud?
The ESP will be all you need 90% of the time in mud and good tires will take care of the other 10%
IMO Lockers are better suited for trails and such where tires will often leave the ground if this is not what you are doing then spending money on a locker is like flushing it down the toilet
Now with the ESP that you have putting in some thing like True Track would be night and day and would also allow you to run a good bit on wooded trails and even some rocks and would have ZERO effect on daily driving

Just my .02

Oh I was thinking you needed to change something on it when installing a locker but that makes a lot of sense.
and when in the mud it seems like all the power is gone to making me go in a line. Its like the power goes form one wheel to the next until the jeep is straight. I just want to floor it and go.

ESP IS THE DEVIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's your brakes applying to keep you going straight,ESP will overheat and wear out your brakes faster.Detroit TT's or ARB's would be a good choice for lockers and should fool the ESP thus not having it engage as often.

"floor it and go"?
That is not what you should be doing ,going to end up hitting a tree

The reason that you go in s strait line is because the ESP is forcing it to by making the tires with traction turn but the power is just going from side to side in the axles
now this will be even more of a problem with 2wd and with a locker or LSD it will get worse not better
if you want traction you need to first get 4wd then get tires then get traction enhancing devices

if you have 4wd then get tires to suit what you are doing ,playing in mud it will be 10X better
if you are still not happy then get a locker or LSD but slow down and see what happens

oh yeah MUD SUCKS in the end it causes more stuff to break then playing on the harder trails or playing in the rocks
been there and done that

If you're trying to compete in mud-bog events, you do need to be able to just floor it and go but, there aren't any trees nearby and the mud is a LOT thicker than what most see on the trail. Lockers are a definite advantage because they allow you to keep all the tires cleaned out and hopefully forward momentum going. However, the 3.7 is very under-powered for this. If you happen to have a CRD, it just might make one hell of a mud-truck with the right modifications.

i agree i have been threw 2 sets of pads at all 4 corners due to the ESP in 72k miles. I am getting sick of replacing brakes.

All the complaints about ESP off the trail but when you get out on the trail and dont suffer 1 wheel peel
I dont hear complaints
I also know that the few JK guys that wheel with us like the ESP ,pulls them along even on 2 wheels

my ESP has been outstanding offroad. if none of my wheels have tractions (i have open diffs)... the esp will keep my left front, and right rear spinning constantly but add power to the right front and left rear on what seems to be 10 second periods.. then stop and only spin 2... then spin all 4 again.. then stop and only spin 2 ..then spin all 4 again

on road.. it has been outstanding in the snow.. in 4hi i can crank through gears and it just launches on ice.. snow.. or whatever i'm on. however in 2hi on wet roads it sometimes engages if i'm starting out turning sharp and have to accelerate quickly.. all in all ESP has been great for my jeep.

however that does not sway my decision to buy a DTT for the front and Aussie for the rear of my jeep. then atleast i'll know what i can expect instead of the computer giving me what it wants to.

Snow is what i hate the most about the ESP I wana do donuts and more donuts they can be done but its not easy with ESP on or off i don't even think the ESP off button works
Tonight i was on the wet roads messing around and turned it off. I live in bfe on back mtn. roads i tried getting it sideways on a sharp turn and the only thing i got was crunch crunch. I LOVE MY JEEP but i just wana kick it sometimes when its telling me i cant drive.

dude you dont sound like the sharpest tool in the box
you drive a top heavy SUV and want to cut doughnuts and "try to get it sideways"

when you roll it and total it the last thing you need to worry about is the ESP giving you problems
Then again I could say that the ESP was put there to save people like you from them selves

My Kj feels perfectly stable while doing a 4wd drift in the snow/ice 8) ,having lockers helps in that respect and now my personal best is about 1/4 mile long.

Also I'll spend the money for lockers over ESP(THE DEVIL!!!!) and save my brakes for when they are needed,ESP on a long trail will leave you with overheated and severe brake fad,not good for when you need to slow down/stop.

I must be a sissy because I just will not do that kind of stuff
saw my buddy in high school roll a '77 Lincoln Town House (Town Car but that is what we called it) giving a "Lawn Job" at 2 am on wet grass so it can happen to any one

and breaks are over rated
I drive a TJ and you need to stand on them to stop fully in 4wd low ,it will slow down to about 2 mph but after that good luck
after that the vehicle goes forward or backward

You may get away with it in LA but here in the mountains you need brakes or you will roll down a 10,000' mountain.

Ever walk up one of those? You'd need 44" Boggers and about 1000hp+ to make it!
