I finally ordered the pump, but can't find the wires. Anybody have any wires left over anymore?

Thanks.

Robert

Make sure you get 18 ga. wires in there. I will be splicing mine right after the connector and replacing the wires with 18 ga wires. There will still be some loss versus straight 18 ga. wires but it should be pretty close.

Had the Dodge in tank module installed last week. I told him to use the 06 harness before I read far enough into this thread. I figured out that all I needed to do was move pin 3 to pin 9 in the gasser plug. I haven't gone through a full tank of fuel yet but it looks like that was it. I guess it gets ground through the pump. If this is a rehash or if it's incorrect let me know.

Not sure what the orientation is in the gasser harness, but in order to add power/ground to the original CRD harness, you only need to add a pin'ed lead and a "body ground" lead from the back seat location and add them to the outside edges of the harness in-tank plug as seen here:
http://kj.polter.net/pics/cummins_pump/20.html
http://kj.polter.net/pics/cummins_pump/24.html

The switched power is the blue/red in this:
http://kj.polter.net/pics/cummins_pump/10.html which goes to the one purple lead on the right side. The ground is screwed to the body right next to it.

Dan

I know that now, but the 06 harness was already installed and I had to get the fuel gauge working with what I had.

I completed the 06 pump install with the 06 gasser harness.

I have compiled wiring info at

http://picasaweb.google.com/bill.barg/J ... 3417643842

I believe it is right, and has some corrections to GMCTD's march 25th post, and above post, on the subject of 06 wiring for the lift pump.

Using the 06 gasser harness with no additional wires, just pin swaps;

Pin 1 to Pin 8 (fuel Sender)
Pin 3 to Pin 9 (fuel sender)
Pin 10 to pin 11 (LR ABS)
Pin 11 to pin 10( LR ABS)

stp2136 noted a descrepancy for the LR ABS wires but I did not find this to be true. Maybe this is due to the missing number 11 on the connector?

Also... the gasser harness is 4 or 5 inches shorter than the CRD.

I got my wiring in on Friday. I got the connectors from bugnout and cut the smaller wires out, soldiered the connector to an 18 gauge wire. The seat wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The carpet was a PITA. I put it all back together, and now I have to drive the jeep some more to run the fuel down. I'm at a 1/4 tank right now. I should be able to drop the tank sometime this week and finish the install.

Right behind you on our '05. Ordered the pump Monday and it arrived the next day. Evidently moparpartsamerica ships from local dealers - in this case, Bob Lamphere's in Beaverton OR. Go Bob!

Moved the pins in the '05 "non-CRD" harness, last night. Probably extend the wires near the tank connector tonight... and install the whole thing this weekend.

Mama fueled up last night, so I'm probably going to hook a spare fuel pump to the hose in the engine bay and pump it into containers so I'm not wrestling a tankful.

Don't forget to stock up on some extra fuses before the work. in case you accidentally graze a body ground while working on it like I did (no, I didn't take the fuse out first and yes, I had the accessory line turned on for radio...) :)

10 amp in the middle of the row closest to the battery. It's actually labeled in the cover as "fuel pump" or something like that.

Ok - well, started at noon and finished cleaning up the mess just before dinner.

Jeep has this nice purrrr in the tank, and there was a nice clear flow of fuel when I bled the air at the fuel filter... the hand pump is quite firm.

Engine seems to run well, no hesitation, etc.. looking forward to this!

Pictures of the process are in my webshots album.. enjoy!

Nice photo documentation, Mark. Nice progress on the float switch-out solution!

FYI: by running that Carter fuel pump outta position you were allowing it to cavitate a bunch - from varoius causitive reasons, that cavitation is the main source of failure in those pumps and the plastic-encapsulated replacement when front-mounted on the Dodges - mount them near the tank where Carter specified and problems solved

Good to know... in the Jimmy, the three bolts are vertical into a mounting bracket - it's mounted on the frame as close to the tank as possible. I just used the backup to accelerate the drain time.

Sure sud'zd up the stuff going into the barrel!

Thx,

I installed my pump yesterday. It starts better and there is a dramatic reduction in lag time from when you press the accellerator to when it goes. It seems to have a little more power too. But that might be because it reacts sooner!

FYI, I used someone else's extra wires. I cut the connectors off and soldiered in an 18 ga. wire. There is no splicing in my wiring, just soldier. It was pretty easy!

Overall, I like it, and it was an easy mod.
