This is my good-bye post. It's been a pleasure talking with you guys over the past two years but after over a month in the shop and 6 or 7 trips to the dealer for the same problem Chrysler has agreed to buy back my 2006 Liberty Limited CRD. I think they realized they would loose in a lemon law fight. They are just calculating what they are going to pay me back now after I faxed in all my paperwork. (I just hope I get my interest back) I have to admin I'm going to miss the old beast. My fiancee and I just bought a 2008 Accord as a replacement while it will be a better family car it doesn't have any of the appeal of the jeep (Loads of torque, awesome sound, excellent hwy fuel economy, ext....) Good luck to the rest of you.

hey bovie - when chrysler gives you buyback amount - will you let us know how they depreciate the milage and/or any other wear and tear off the original price you paid for it?

He already told me it was
Purchase Price x Miles Driven up until 1st problem (in my case 16,500) / 120,000 (Which is the same thing that the state of Washington lists on their lemon law website as fair.

They also told me that are paying back my Chrysler warranty that I brought separate 100% so the only think that is killer is weather or not they are going to pay back all the interest I paid over the 2 years.

I might go back and trade in for the diesel accord when they come out but I have to say fully intergrated voice command navagation and bluetooth phone is awesome makes the jeep's uConnect and nav look like they came from the stone age. I do still miss diesel engine noise.

That formula is what they use in your state to calculate the depreciation, not the buyback amount, right? They will deduct depreciation from the amount you originally paid?

So, what do they do with a vehicle they buy back as a lemon anyway?
Throw it on a used car lot and let some fool pick it up "As Is, No Warranty"?

Auction it, I believe. Though sometimes it feels like they study the lemons carefully and use them as the basis for next year's model.

Actually buybacks often end up in engineering, but as studies of what went wrong, not as the basis for next year's model.

What was the issue that drove you to a buy back?

I think most, not all ( ie longarm's issues were terrible), but most buy backs on these are caused by bad service. Dealerships are not being trained, see the 15 minute video post by gmtcd. 15 minutes and your a diesel mechanic? Poor parts availability does not help either.

I'd have to agree.

I've had a bunch of issues with my CRD, but my dealer has worked to correct them and has been very nice.

I know that GM send many of thier buy back lemons to thier training centers and let the instructors have a crack at fixing it. What happens later I don't know.
