While critically negative critiquing always gets the same reaction as telling people their children are ugly, I must say, this scheme appears more restrictive than the oem system, as evidenced by DTC P0101, which is less flow than expected for current operating conditions , said conditions being only at hiway operation - if system were too large, resulting in same flow but less flow directly across MAF sensor, would get P0101 at any operating rpm from 30mph up - even tho it's function is EGR management, MAF is always monitored as indication of current operating conditions.

Ooh, good to know. I didn't realize it was supposed to flow a significant amount of air, or generate any considerable amount of pressure. I'll poke some more holes for now. Should I use some fiber reinforced hose instead? I'm going to check today and see if the catch can is in stock. I'd rather install something that doesn't look questionable in case I have to bring the Jeep in for service.

I know that some of the aftermarket catch cans have simple internal baffles, but should I suppliment the baffles with steel wool, or the like?

I also left the negative battery terminal disconnected for about 5 hours yesterday in an effort to reset the ECU/PCM but it didn't work. It didn't even clear the CEL. I know in GM vehicles there is a certain sequence with fuses involved to clear the PCM, is there a similar one for Chrysler/Jeeps?

With the current setup, you can breathe through it without any noticeable restriction. I suppose though, that the restriction increases much more when flow rate increases due to that 90 degree tight radius elbow. It's too bad there's no way of objectively measuring the resistance to flow at different flow rates (like a flow bench). It is definitely a drastic improvement over the OE paper element in stock configuration though.

I've noticed in some of the other "CCV catch-can" articles that folks have a problem with the negative pressure drawing more gasses through the CCV than would be there from the engine's cycles alone... Is that a symptom of connection the ccv inlet to the intake downstream of the turbo and/or is that something that's consistent with the CRD (since diesels operate in an excess-air condition...).

I'd like to explore options to my current provent setup since it's just too darned big for my tastes and looks somewhat inelegant. Just trying to figure out if I need to allow for large vapor volume or if I can go with a smaller catch like the air compressor filters.

Dan

Could the new location of the intake pressure sensor have anything to do with the P0101? Or is the pressure sensor strictly used to calculate density?

It seems strange that a sensor to measure barometric pressure would be located inside the intake where pressure can and does deviate from ambient barometric.

Regarding dgeist's post:
Am I correct in saying the mild vacum within the intake ducting creates additional flow through the CCV system that would not otherwise occur if there were a simple breather or elephant hose setup?
