I have found a write up for making some tube doors for what looks like an old Silverado or Bronco here http://www.off-road.com/trucks4x4/article/articleDetail.jsp?id=200868

I might look into finding some steel and giving it a try for the front doors, my uncle is pretty efficient at welding. I'll just have to see how much the steel will cost.

He was saying he wants to make tube doors for HIS rig, not yours! Why do people feel it necessary to knock something that isn't even being considered for their rig? Don't like it? Then don't do it, don't even consider it, no bother here or from gone_jeepin, I'm sure! It's not like he was advertising the doors for your KJs, he was just posting a topic for discussion.

I'm so glad I'm getting a Ducati, the Ducati forums are much better than this! These forums go down-hill on the daily, I swear...

I really just like the open feel of a wrangler with the doors off in the summer, but I like the look of the liberty and my leather heated seats in the winter :)
I think I'll try using round steel tubing, mostly because i think it'll look better. Just have to find time before or after work to go to the HD or Lowes or the local steel yard.

I've seen a threadon this before. Just keep in mind that it probably won't be street legal any more with tube doors. Check your local laws. The wranglers get away with it becase they come that way from the factory (or so the thread stated).

I have to agree with you man. You want to go doorless get a wrangler. I don't even like it on the XJs.

It's not about the look. It's about functionality and feel 8)

There is always a way to make them look right. Would be kewl with canvas lower skins and plexi window that both snap on the tube doors.

Just take the doors off like the XJ guys do. If your area is strict on vehicle laws, you may want to check with them. The XJ guys just make the doors easily removeable.

If I was making a KJ into a trail rig, I'd fab some half doors up like on this Chevy. I think a KJ with half doors would look great on the trail

I agree. I think that's a happy middle. I agree that tube doors wouldn't look good sitting in the KJ door jam and I agree how useful they would be on the trail. This style seems to be the ticket

I also agree with Troy in reference to the fun time to be had getting the stock doors aligned again one it's time to put them back on.

Weren't those a factory option for K5s? I know 1st gen Broncos had a similarly-styled (but totally different) insert for the doorjamb that made it look more finished when the doors were removed.
