I found an old CJ for sale here in town and want to go take a look at it but I'm not sure what it would be worth.

The poster on it says it's got a lot of new parts and runs great. I'll check that out when I go talk to the guy about it. From first glance there's a lot of rusted out holes in the floor so it probably needs a new tub and it looks like a lot of the wiring needs to be replaced. It doesn't have a back bench (not sure if they did or not) and the spare is missing. The leafs look like they could be replaced but the front seats look to be in decent condition. He's got it listed at $2800 but I don't think I'd really want to spend more than 2k based on what I saw. What do you guys think?

Check the area around the rear shackles on the frame. They like to rot out right there, and just in front of the rearmost body mounts.

If that's solid, and it runs/drives well (for an open-top 30 year old Jeep) and there are no strange clunks/rattles, then it's worth whatever you're willing to pay for it.

try to get some pictures.

Hmmm....with all the things you said about it I would pass. That is just me though. It would also depend on what you are planning to do to it. If you are going to make it a crawler then most of the would be junked anyway. If you like to tinker it might be worth about 2k, IMO, maybe and that is a big maybe for me.

Sorry I can't be more help.

well from what I've seen in the past most old Jeeps that are original need a new floor anyway. It very well may even just be a patch issue it may not need a new tub at all.

I'll try to get some pictures soon though and report back when I can meet up with the guy.

tub from Quadratec has shot up in the past decade! whoa!

If I were building another CJ, this is the route I'd go, rather than 'glass, which likes to get nice little spiderweb stress cracks when you abuse it at the dunes

http://www.quadratec.com/products/32500_52D_T.htm

for some reason, I'm not seeing a 'glass option for either one. Wonder what gives?

Wish I would've found THIS one sooner. That's $2k well spent!
