Did you measure the amount of suspension lift?

can be build with less lift, more daily driver friendly, or is the minimun for a SFA to the liberty?

The top of his signature says 8" SFA, I'm guessing he has 8 inches of lift, not including tires.

From this and the other SFA KJ's, it looks like 8" of lift is required to clear 33" tires. If you were running smaller tires (<32"), you can do that on a good IFS lift with a little trimming.

Actually 8" seems to be required to keep the live axle from hitting the stock engine cradle and unibody. You can go low (less than 8") and wide, ideal for rock crawling, if you replace the engine cradle with a higher clearance one.

Cradle isn't the problem as most of that goes away. It is the frame that you have to clear. You can go w/ Limited uptravel by bumpstopping and then let it droop a lot but to gain a balance and keep it Low is going to be tough at any less than what Appears to be 8-10" over stock.

Even with full width axles we are looking at just under the 8'' mark.

Looks great man! I have a question about the coilover mounts. It looks like you mounted them in the stock position in the fender well and yet the axle is pushed forward, where did you weld the brackets on the axle? the bracket looks to be behind the axle am I seeing the right?

It would be really great if you could get detailed pictures of the suspension setup!

thanks

yeah the coil over mount is maybe a inch behind the axle...the top of the shock goes through the hole and the mount is on the other side...

Good luck getting the labor deal he got.
YOu have to remember that the other ones done for $15k + are running lots of heavily upgraded parts that are included in the cost. Mine has a D44 rear and HPD30 front w/ 4.56's and ARB's + compressor, alloy axles, heavy duty chromo high steer, WJ brakes/knuckles, Warn hubs, Crane covers, Nth Degrees suspension system w/ a custom flat belly pan, Custom made drivelines, Includes a set of tires And wheels, (didn't have anything to borrow tires from) a Rubicon transfer case, Currie Anti-rock swaybar system, etc., etc.

Any project can be done for cheaper but it isn't a fair comparison from what you can get for $5k and $15-20K. Heck I have more than $10k More in just upgraded parts alone over this budget project.

I do Dig that he has a SFA KJ for the price and I Do think it is cool and hope others can get in on the SFA bandwagon for cheaper too. Heck, it is a Jeep and regardless of how much it costs to initially build it is Never done as you will always find something more to spend $$ on.

Agree with you JJ, two different ways to go about it for sure, either do it all to begin with like you did and also TJKJ is going to do it or get it together and find the weak spots and keep building. I have done it both ways in the past and each has its advantages. But in the end as long as you like it thats what counts!
