At his age?
I hope you have great insurance.
7MPH is a light jog for teens/adults...for someone his age it is a bit faster pace. A 14 MPH run for him would only last 6-8 seconds. No way I would attempt to put someone his age at 17 MPH.
Also, I do not put my athletes at sprint speeds on the treadmill unless they have very good technique and their hip flexor strength is above average. Finally, high speed sprints do not begin untill week three of the program, so by then, they have done well over 100 runs on the treadmill, so they are well experienced at getting on/off the treadmill. I have been using this system for over 5 years now, and this is the only athlete I have had fly off the back (thank goodness....and if it were more, i wouldn't be doing it this way).
Unfortunately the kid had a lapse in concentration and let go of the bar. But he was fine, eventually started to laugh, and got back up there.
