I seem to have torn a CV boot on the left side yesterday while I was discovering how bad stock tires are in t he mud. I cannot find a replacement boot from anywhere but Jeep. JC Whitney has one that supposedly is almost universal and claims to never need replacing again. Anyone know if it will work? Any ideas where I can get another boot? It appears that something ripped the boot. I ran over a small downed tree and may have caught something.

hmm. Why not get it from jeep? Thats not a very hard install either. Just be sure you clean the cv out really good and do not drive it until then.

Hey man, I've done it more times than I care to count up here in Mud Central.. if you where in the mud, it's best to replace the whole thing. It probably got contaminated and you just can't get it all out. New from DC is almost a grand MY price...your's is well over I'm sure. So look around and see if you can find a Re-manned one for about $100. Les Schwab Tire Centers out my way sell em, but they aren't in TN... but they're made, so don't stop looking til you find one!

Good luck!

Try Advance Auto Parts.. http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductList.aspx?parttype=945&ptset=A&searchfor=Drive+Shaft+%2f+Axle

They are about $108 plus taxes or another local parts store..

Thanks for the replies. I am trying to find just the boot and not replace the whole half shaft. I wasn't in deep mud and doubt any got in the boot. I found one Jeep dealer on the net that had their replacement parts online, and they listed it as being over $60 for just the boot. I may have to go with the whole half shaft, but I was trying to avoid it. I have emailed Rockford CV to see if they have one that will fit. I wonder what the chances of one from a Taco would fit. Does everyone just replace the half shaft when they bust a boot? I may need to come up with a boot protector of some sort.

The boot kit which includes the boot, two steel bands, and a bag of CV greese is $69.00 + tax at the dealer.

Take yours to Napa and they'll rebuild it for around $100. Or you could buy the whole assembly (used, low mileage) for around $150 from www.car-part.com. I got mine from car-part.com with 5,000 miles on it and it even came with a warranty...no problems with it at all.

anybody know a release date on the JE REEL CV's? If I had that and the Tom Wood's SYE my drivetrain would be a lot better off.

I can get a half shaft complete from O'Reilly auto parts for $91. I was hoping I could find a boot for less than $30 and not have to do the whole shaft. Oh well.

I'd do the whole shaft anyways because you probably did get grit or sand or mud in you CV's and it is impossible to clean out. I have tried it before. It lasted 2 months on my Honda Accord before the joints themselves self destructed. Take the time, do it right.
