Same thing happened to me a number of months ago, started up from dead cold to run the weekend errands and hit the throttle and just mush and shudder feathering the throttle to no avail. I thought I had finally cacked the trans in a big way, But i rolled down our hill to a turn out and was able to back up and inspect finding no apparent problems and no thrown codes. I was about to start thinking about the fuel and decided to wait for awhile and tried a couple of restarts, and about the third attempt the issue went away. There seems to be a lot of ghosts in the DCM software. Txs to gmctd for the 411 on the SGII incompatiability what a nightmare thats been !!!!!!!!!

I had a similar issue, I was on a road trip pulling a 3000LBS trailer and for the whole week of the trip when starting from a stop it would cut out and have no throttle response untill I floored it. Then it would cut back in hard and take off leaving a huge black soot cloud. Very odd. I plugged back in my off road mod and I haven't had this issue since that road trip. Also there was almost a turbo barking noise going on.

You can still use the SGII as a scantool to look at various parameters, or check for DTC's - doesn't cause any errors at standstill, just not a good idea to use it while the vehicle is moving

Fuel timing seems like a plausible cause as well. It might be difficult to determine what is causing it though.

If it were a timing issue there would be a lot of smoke, either white or black. I have had it happen twice. The first time it lit up the TPS mismatch light or whatever it is called. The second time, nothing, but same symptoms. My wife has had it happen to her but it always resolves by the time I get there.
