Yeah, the bumper can wait until I actually do crush it I guess.

Keep us posted what you do. I will too (in another thread).

Check out Rocky-Road.com for a cheap Powertrax locker.

 I think that is the exact number they quoted me. I may go that route, $200 less than the Detroit Locker, but I do love the detroit.

I should start a new poll and see what everyone says between the Detroit and the Powertrax. :D

I've been running DTT and Powertrax No Slip since 03 in my 02 Lib been on some tough trails and very satisfy with their proformance. I had just join the club and Clint, Wally, and JJ (I think) were running that set up. I don't plan on doing ARB's unless I decide to go SFA. So my vote are for lunch box lockers front and rear more bang for your money unless money is not an issue. Just my opinion.

Well, after doing some searching on the powertrax, I have seen that everyone running it in their Kj really likes or loves it. Maybe with the $200 I save from not buying the detroit I can get the DTT for the front. :P

JSC7002, where did you get your DTT for your front end?

So is there any word on the DTT with ESP?

It is nice that the price of gears has gone done so much for the front. That $700 parts cost for a front 4.10 had kept me from even considering it.

So I just got an email from Sprint telling me that my $200 rebate check is on the way. Woohoo. Another chunk going towards a DTT up front. I am still getting gears as well, that I really need before I wear out my tranny and engine.

So as of now I am looking to get the DTT up front, the Ptrax in the rear, and 4.10 gears. We'll see what happens after I call all the companies and get shipping and install quotes. If those prices are too high, I am going to have to drop the DTT up front am I afraid. But if that happens I may be able to go with the Detroit only in the rear and not the Ptrax. We'll see how the money pans out.

i think you should do 4:10 gears and while you have the diffs open do a locker...do the front if you only can buy 1...you will like this set up

Why the front over the rear if I can only do one? I've always thought that rear would be better. :?

4Wheel Parts for $387 shipped, and I looked around for a while and they were a lot cheap than everyone else for the front but for the 8.25 there was another place that was cheaper but I cant remember where

I did the front first bc I knew it was gonna be the harder one of the two and bc I had enough to do it and Im still hoping that one of these days Aussie will get theirs done and out, Im saving for 4.10 right now though

but if you get the powertrax let me know how you like it Im still not sure about it, but it is cheaper than the DTT or DL especially since its one that you can install yourself....dang I want the Aussie locker

Well, I called around and I can get the lockers and gears done for around $500 installed. The front and rear lockers and gears will put me well over my goal of around $1,000. I called Reider Racing and they can get me the f&r gears for $300 but they won't have any front gears until the end of the month at the earliest.

So, not sure what I want to do but this is what it looks like:

1.
$400 DTT - 4wheelparts
$600 DL - Tellico4x4
$300 F&R gears - Reider Racing
$200 install kit - Reider Racing
$500 install - local shop

Total:
$2,000

2.
$400 DTT - 4wheelparts
$400 Powertrax - Rocky-Road
$300 F&R gears - Reider Racing
$200 install kit - Reider Racing
$500 install - local shop

Total:
$1,800

3.
$600 DL - Tellico4x4
$300 F&R gears - Reider Racing
$200 install kit - Reider Racing
$500 install - local shops

Total:
$1,600

4.
$400 Powertrax - Rocky-Road
$300 F&R gears - Reider Racing
$200 install kit - Reider Racing
$500 install - local shop

Total:
$1,400

That dang bumper is looking easier and easier.

Do these prices sound right?

I know I need gears but the mpgs and power loss hasn't bugged me yet, and they eat up all of the $1,000 I was planning on, but I know I should get them.
I have the cash for any of these choices but I don't wanna be irresponsible and blow it all. With twins coming I am trying to be a smart parent and think of the bigger family picture and not just my jeep. I hear kids are expensive.

Since the diffs will already be open and worked on I want to get lockers in them, or if I am putting lockers in, I should slap the gears in too. Save money that way. But the friggin price doubles for the parts.

More and more I am annoyed with this for some reason and want to just Powertrax it and call it good.

ya you dont really want to install gears and then in a couple months install lockers, $300 for the gears is a pretty darn good price! your 2nd option sounds pretty good

what mpg are you getting now?

Your smartest deal would be to get the lockers and gears installed at the same time. Labor to do them separately will be a total Beotch of a cost.

I have the gears, but waiting on Ted to begin his SFA so I can get his ARB's and get both lockers and gears installed at the same time.

So, either buy lockers or gears now and wait till you can buy the other item and install all together or pay a hefty price overall.

In the meantime, get the RL bumper.

Getting the bumper would really set me back. Plus I'd have to wait forever for it.

I am trying to see if my buddy mechanic can save me the $500 install charge and then I could get f&r lockers and gears, if not then I will most likely get rear only.

well.. i voted for front and rear lunchbox's. when the aussie locker comes out (next month or in 3 years) i will buy it and a DTT for the front. The reason being that the ARB is much much too expensive for a college budge.. and the detroit is also very expensive. plus both those set ups require re-shimming the rear end since it's a full carrier replacement. the powertrax and aussie do not replace the carrier and i am able to install them myself (as are you most likely) Now i say the aussie over the powertrax because this site seems to be split down the middle. some love the powertrax others hate the powertrax. my jeep has to be reliable and everything i've ever read about the aussie locker (any version of it) has been nothing but perfect. the DTT in the front just because the ARB is too expensive and the limited slip is nice for a non-selectable locker in the front (plus the only make the DTT and ARB for the front). i'm avoiding regearing since i have the 6speed and can use my gears to make up powerloss. hope some of that helped :)

aussie- $300
aussie install- $0
DTT- $400 (dont really know just a good guess)
DTT install- if it's less than $300 your under the 1000

Forget the bumper. The kid won't notice the difference.

But with Lockers and gears, he (or she?) will have a smile from ear to ear! :D
Which reminds me, I've decided to do a DTT in front, and the PowerTrax Limited Slip in the rear.

Too bad you're not closer, we could have a locker / gear / beer / pizza party in my friend's garage.

I need the gears because I have an auto and the Sierras kick my KJs butt on the hywys. I am still waiting to hear from my mechanic buddy about helping out with the install. If he can help me out, I am doing gears, and lockers front and rear. If not I am doing gears but front only because I can install the powertrax myself and not worry about the install cost later on. Hopefully my buddy gets back to me and lets me know to go ahead with everything.

man I would be happy with 16.6 on the HWY lol Im getting about 15.4 now  , so your first choice is gears and lockers front and rear and your second choice is gears and front locker and then powertrax/ aussie later?

so are you doing the DTT for the front? what about the rear?

DTT the front and gears if my buddy can't hook me up with the install or DTT front and powertrax in the rear and gears if he can hook me up.

I know, I am excited to get almost 20 mpgs hywy.
