now it would be interesting to know if the ones that voted for the bumper i have gears and lockers or just going for the looks that the bumper gives

Yeah, bumper is going to top off the jeep as a pretty much final addition I think. I can't really think of anything else I'd like to add after that. Winch, but don't really want one, ummm yeah, that's about it. Maybe two more lights on the front end.

dont want a winch  a few older and more experienced (than me) wheelers have told me that lockers only get ya stuck deeper so you need someone with lockers to get ya out. but a winch will always get you home. next thing i buy is the aussie.. then i'll cross the front bumper and winch bridge

Have yet to need a winch. Most of all recovery situations can be solved by a good strap. Don't play in the mud much if at all, and winches come in handy more there than on the rocks where I spend most if not all of my off road time.

I see that 4wd.com does price matching and they have free shipping, and it appears they carry the one of the lockers, now i just need to see about the other one. I can't find many DTT for the D30a online, most are all for the D30. The cheapest I have found is here: http://www.streetsideauto.com/products2 ... er=912A314

4wheelparts.com doesn't show they cary the part number 912A314...

Side note: Who would have guessed there'd be so many votes for the bumper? Pretty even voting across the board too.

Just this morning I began a search and went to Jaws Gear. Their price on the DTT is $363.83 but no stock. I thought cool, one stop shopping (they also sell the PT $430.27). Anyway, thanks for the heads-up on streetsideauto.

I voted for lockers b/c thats what I am working on but I am now offically regearing my KJ 8) first then hopefully Aussie will be out or else Im gonna have to pay to have the DTT installed in the rear

you need a DTT for the D30, Im pretty sure that 4wheelparts is the cheapest b/c I got free shipping along with $50 off and it arrived 2 days after I ordered it! they are really good to deal with.

is Timken any good? I found a fairly cheap 8.25" overhaul from them buit I didnt know if they are any good or not

Timken bearings is the staple of diff bearing/spindle bearings, about the best out there.ARB lockers come with Timken bearings.

Make sure you get the master install kit that comes with new ring gear bolts, you are not supposed to re-use ring gear bolts.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 0144604617

Mike do you know how much the D30a gears and overhaul are from Rieder Racing or did you just get a total price for it all? what gears did they not have?

Now I'm confused?

Some say the front DTT is suppose to be p/n 912A314, and 4wheelparts claims p/n 912A585 is for front application only? WTH? And Eaton's site just blows. :x

I'm just going to order the PowerTrac for the rear now and figure this stuff out later.

The total from Reider Racing was just under $500 IIRC and that included the master overhaul kit-front and rear and gears-front and rear. He said he was out of gears for the KJ front and back and didn't mention any specific gear names.

The part number 912A314 is for the D30a and 4wheelparts does not have that part on their site. The D30 has a completely different pn so I assume it doesn't fit our front ends. I agree Eaton's site is pretty useless.

This becoming a pain.

thats a 27 spline, you need one that is 29 spline and 3.73 or higher, the correct pn is 912A314

The correct part# for the front DTT that the KJ needs is 912A585--D30,3.73 gears and up,front apps only, and for 27 spline D30(which the D30A is). That is the part # that I installed in my D30A.It's $400 at 4wheelparts.com for one more day.

For the 912A585, does the locker come in a different spline count? I mean does the p/n work for 29 spline and 27 spline carriers?

I am going by THIS & THIS unless someone can prove to me they're wrong.

edit: I am going to call Reider Racing tomorrow for verification. Wish me luck.

no 912A585 is for the D30 27 spline 3.73 and up which is the one you want

There are 2 different versions of the DTT,the older 2 gear style and the newer 3 gear style, different part#'s and many places may still have the old style in stock and trying to get rid of them. The 3 gear style is much stronger.
