well I am now ae 80k miles with the CRD and this year has been one prblem after the next first my clockspring broke, a CAC hose broke then my whole steering rack breaks, next my ABS computer goes nuts, and now just last friday my serpintine belt tensioner broke.(VM part had to be shipped from vermont) that alone was 176 dollars at my price list is 218. i think i have spent close to 1k dollars just in parts repairing the CRD this year. ok I am done ranting. I will still continue to drive the CRD till it dies. I just cant be without it.

Could the steering troubles be related to your avatar?

ya thats why i am cutting back on going out as much the repair bills are begining to add up at 80k miles from the abuse. i take full blame for most of the problems. just had to vent.

I had a friend with a model helicopter, radio controlled. He measured his outings by what it cost to repair everything for the next outing! His mindset was:

a) it's fun
b) expense is part of the exercise

So, it seems that expectations help.

If you're getting uncommon expenses for repairs with over-the-road operation, well, I guess we all complain a bit.

If you're doing some serious off-road work, perhaps it's just a matter of adjusting expectations?

I wasn't too happy with needing to replace the EGR/FCV on our Libby so soon after buying it, without warranty... but, I've taken steps 8) :D
and its run like a top with no problems since. I love it.

If it starts costing too much, I'll join you.
