Good All around KJ tires

looking for a pair of tires to go with my lift im going to get..any suggestions??
im looking for a pair of all around good tires street, offroad, rain, snow etc

Firestone Destination A/Ts in 245/75R16. These will fit the stock rims. You will have to pound down the pnich welds so they do not rub on hard corners or off road. Unlifted, same tires, just in 245/70R16. No rubbing on my Jeep with this size.

Cooper ST's. Can't say enough good about 'em. Had mine put on at 33,000. i'm now at 80,000 with plently tread left (enough to still wheel succesfully). Mostly highway miles of course but offroading they've seen the whole gammut and done very well. Not a mud tire but lugs clean very well for an AT. Only weak point would be traction on rocks compared to certain others. Compund is not as soft/sticky but then, that's what contributes to the longevity of the tire. Very reasonably priced if you look around. Got mine through NAPA.

IMO
no such thing
good on street = poor off road
good off road = poor on street
The best middle road that I have found has been the MTR ,but they are a bit loud for most however my wife has had them for 2 years and 25K with little complaints

now when we move and need new tires ,and knowing that the KJ is a 99.9% DD because we have a TJ to smash off road
I plan to run the BFG AT mostly because I simply can not put a street tire on a 4wd Jeep
If we do get a new ride then it ,the KJ, will get some cheep off brand MT's to save me a ton of money

Check out the Kumhos as well they have some good tires for both mud and also ATs. I have the KL78s and they do great I think, not full on mud tires but open enough tread to clean good. Heck of a lot cheaper than paying for some name as well

I've got the Bridgestone Dueler A/T REVOS, I have had them in mud and they do pretty good, not too loud on the street, and handel well on wet roads.

very happy with The General Grabber AT2. Dry, wet & snow handled very well. Dry wheeling works well too. I don't like them a lot in deep mud. However I Don't go mudding. At least not intentionally.

Also have used Toyo Open Country AT. Similar as above. But wore out to quick for my liking.

I'm all about the Firestone Destination AT's as previously mentioned. Great all around tire. I suggest tirerack.com for reviews and research. The Firestones are rated very high.

I recently got back from an 8.5K mile trip to the Canadian arctic (Dempster Hwy) and Alaska, 1K of the miles were unpaved or off road, lots of mud. I chose BFG AT/KOs and they were wonderful. I got the load range D for a strong sidewall as the crushed shale on some of the roads is famous for eating tires. What surprises me is that this tire is really comfortable on the highway, hard to believe it isn't nosier or rougher ride.
There are a number of good tires and certainly cheaper ones but this has got to be considered one of the really good tires.
I have a set of regular load range AT/KOs on my 1998 Cherokee and it handles well on the road and off road in Death Valley and other off road runs.
If I were never going off road there may be better tires and maybe special tires like Blizzaks for snow but for what I do these tires never cease to amaze me both on road and off.

I'm a former BFGoodrich guy myself.

When they were bought out by Michelin I stopped looking at their tires and tried some Bridgestone tires. That of course turned me on to the Firestone/Bridgestone tire company.

Of course, everyone will have a different opinion on what tire they like the most. It's just how things work. Just remember to keep up on the research and look around at all tires.

I originally misread his post thinking he was referring to BFG AT's. Unless I am wrong, I believe he was referring to all "named" AT's? Anyway...

Nope I was reffering to the BFG AT's,went through 4 AT's and 2 MT's on my '84 Blazer that I was using for mud drag racing,no rocks,to tree roots just 6 cut sidewalls for no reason in less then 200 miles.Switched to Interco Boggers and never had a problem,then I found MT/R's and they have never let me down either.

Interesting tid-bits on the BFG's. MT/R's are near the top of my list, once I am lifted. It seems everyone I know or meet running these tires rav's about them.

I ran BFG ATs on my CJ and they were good. Not a single issue with sidewalls and that was for over 2 years. They don't so well in the rain on pavement though. I had MTRs on my 2 different TJs and the first set I bought all 5 for $250 for all 5 tires and wheels and they lasted less than 10,000 miles. The second TJ I bought them for and they tore to shreds. They had big chunks of rubber missing after off roading with them for the first time. I will never buy them again. BFG MTs suck too, they are the worst MT out there except the Toyo Open Country MTs. Both are all show and no go. Just my 2 cents.
