Now I have 4 things Jeep needs to take a look at on my 2008 with only 3400 miles on it:
1. Jeep had to order a seat frame for the passenger seat because it was rattling so badly. When they took a look at it they said it couldn't be repaired, thus a new seat frame.
2. Steering wheel makes the subtle tick/click sound when turning it left or right.
3. High pitched rhythmic/squeaking sound which seems to be coming from the front (?) when I pull up to a stop. Heard it the other day very plainly when I pulled up to the bank window. Easy to hear when there is a wall of some sort ...perhaps echoing off of it?
4. Still feel the rubbing sensation to the wheels (?) when making left or right turns. Another Jeep place, different from the one I'm taking it to now, checked it out and said there wasn't anything wrong with it. Somehow I don't think that's the right answer.

So, for now, I'm not real happy with my choice I made when I bought it. Have never had this many problems with a new car before.

Thats too bad that you are having problems, hope you get them worked out but don't think all are like that, mine has over 110,000 on it and HAS NEVER been inside a dealership and only in a garage four times for alignments thats it!

Howdy - I had a somewhat similar experience when I got mine... Had an airbag component that got loose and started rattling - they tried to fix it twice and then swapped out the whole steering wheel. Hasn't been an issue since. Had the seat rattle on the drivers side and they replaced the seat frame assembly. They're doing the passenger side today actually. They're also shortening the e-brake and doing the 12K mile service. Also have some shuddering/rattling sound under acceleration when it's not all warmed up. Didn't have a chance to look into it with them yet but I told them it's happening and it doesn't seem to be hurting much in the meantime.

I also just picked up an '08 Dodge Ram 2500... Front transfer case was making some weird noise. It was driveable in the meantime and they got it swapped. Now there's some other rotational issue that they'll be looking into next week.

Apart from these noises here and there - both vehicles have performed very well for me. Decent gas mileage, both run without any complaint, and I'm working 'em over as I'm up and down the mountain and the front range every day. The 2500 has been from denver to the house with my 9'2" Boss VXT plow hanging off the nose... That's 947 extra pounds serving mostly to keep the drive wheels off the ground and block all airflow to the engine. Do about 10K' elevation change each day, about 100 miles round trip, and the first/last 4 miles of it is all off road. Got the KK in march and have 12,100 miles on it - got the 2500 in August and have 3500 miles on it. More than anything, I'm just glad to know that I am covered for these issues for as long as I own the vehicles.... Got the bumper-to-bumper lifetime warrenty on them both and am feeling pretty good about it so far. They both rattle a bit, but the work's getting done, so I ain't complaining.

As far as the squealing goes, I have the same thing, and the dealer told me that was normal, and there was nothing wrong with the brakes (only made the noise when brakes were applied at low speeds).

Johnb - Where was the rattle coming from for your airbag component? I have some strange rattle on the left side (inside) that I can't seem to isolate.

Have you driven a 4wd vehicle that the front axle was always locked in before? If not that is probally what you are feeling,having no steering stabilizer and having rack&pinion steering transmits stuff much easier to the steering wheel.

same thing on evey thing actuly just herd the squeling with no brakes rolling down a hill hoped on to see if any one elce had this problem. also i have a rattel comming from the passanger door if i pull on the door a bit the rattel goes a way for a min or 2. any one elce have a problem with the alinement ill be going in for my 2nd one with less than 5k on it

Well....I have yet to hear from the dealership that the seat frame assembly came in. It's now been 2 weeks. But they will get my list of things to look at while they're replacing that. I love my Jeep, but I'm really, really, disappointed in the build quality of a brand new car. And it bothers me how well it will be as time goes on....

I expect you'll see it improve once things have a chance to shake out. Just like the way your box of cereal is full when it ships and only half full when you get it from the store, it takes some miles for things to settle into their natural positions.

You also got to take into account that the '08 KK's are a whole new platform and it will take 1-2 years to work the "bugs" out,all auto company's have the same type of problems for the first 1-2 years of a brand new platform release,it's just the nature of the beast.

Thanks guys.....you're right about all of that. I'm just disappointed because I've never had a Jeep before, and I've always wanted one, and now I have it and it has these things wrong with it. But I'm sure they will be fixable, and I can be on my way! My only worry is that it not become an "in the shop" bother all the time. I do need a reliable car.....as we all do.

I wouldn't classify annoyances like a few rattles, squeals and squeals as unreliable. Now if you were taking it in all the time for things like the transmission, engine, etc. then it would be an unreliable vehicle. The KK is my 5th Jeep, and I have never had them in the shop for anything major <shrug>.

I'm just hoping down the road it doesn't become those more major things. I've bought a few new cars in the past, but this is the first one with this many annoyances with hardly any miles on it yet, and that does bother me a little.

Keep in mind that these are not designed as comfort vehicles... The 3.7 has been out for a good while now and nobody's got problems with it at this point. The new physical platform got some shake out time as the Nitro and basically works all the time... Don't know if you ever had the chance to put some miles in behind the wheel of an old cherokee or wrangler, but those things are like tin cans compared to the KK. I had a comanche that ran to about 300K miles - had a detachable steering wheel for the last 75K... They run pretty much for forever, but they'll jingle all the way.

Thanks John......just a young 61 yr old female who loves her new Jeep Liberty... and no, never drove a Jeep before Don't get me wrong.....I really love my new Jeep, and I would even like to try off-roading if I dared I come from Honda/Toyota/Mazda history with new vehicles, and they never had anything going on with them except the usual maintenace stuff you do with vehicles. My new Liberty is a "keeper" for me. Women tend to worry I guess

Try not to worry - wait till you take it off road for a while - it'll start to double as a maraca.

silverfox I have that same wierd clicking sound from my steering wheel when turning... I was gonna make them look at it when I take it in for the oil change and A/C update.
