Well, my wife and I were at her monthly pregnancy visit for her checkup today and the doctor told her the cramping she was feeling was labor. She admitted us immediately into the hospital and our twins are trying to make an early appearance. 3 months early. Very good chance we will lose them and if we don't there is a very good chance they will have serious medical issues. So my world has kind of been turned upside down. My wife and I have tried for over two years to get pregnant and now that we are, this happens. Kinda hard to take. We could use all the thoughts and prayers we can get. Keeping my fingers crossed and lots of praying. Thanks.

-Mike

I don’t know your exact situation, but I can tell you that delivering babies 3 months too early isn’t necessarily a recipe for disaster. I have all most finished my Master Degree in Special Education and have studied premature babies, birth, and children with disabilities in great detail. I’ve seen countless situations where mothers have given birth at 6 months and their children are high functioning and normal children in every aspect: cognitively, emotionally, and behaviorally. Again, I do not pretend to understand your particular situation. I’m just saying with the Power of God (the creator of all things) you have Him on your side.

Hey buddy, of course your family will be in our prayers. I am leaving for NV tomorrow morning and I will check-in to see if there is any news. I want good news. Got it. God bless.

Well, you guys have no idea how much I appreciate your thoughts and prayers. It seriously means the world.

As far as an update. The bigwig NICU doctor came in and gave us the facts of what our situation really is.

Good news: They both have a 85-90% chance of surviving.

Bad news: There is a good chance that the twins will have serious heart, lungs and brain issues at least for the entire first year. Blindness, heart and lung failure, and brain damage are all a possibility.

More good news: There is a good chance that all the ailments from being premature will go away as our girls grow up in their first 3 years.

They took me on a tour of the NICU last night and I got to see 7 or 8 tiny premature babies and the machines they are hooked up to. All of them looked relatively healthy. It was really good for me to see what we are facing first hand. I feel much better now too. There was another guy that took the tour with me and his wife has the same due date as mine and so that also helped me to see we weren't alone in this pretty scary experience.

All you can do is pray and have faith that we are in good hands. Thanks again for everything, I am so glad I have you guys to come to and get away, even if it is only for a short while.

Thank you.

All 4 of you are in our thoughts.

Nothing is written in stone. My wife went into labor at 28 weeks. They held it off for 5 weeks. She was in the hospital with her feet higher than her head the entire time, but they used magnesium sulfate in an IV and it bought our daughter some time.

Thanks again everyone. I hope I don't jinx it but she is doing really well right now. Everything has slowed down and nothing has advanced from where we were yesterday. Today was a good day.

Again, I really really appreciate everything everyone has said on here and my wife sends her thanks and love to you guys for your thoughts and prayers. She teared up when I told her what you all said. So from the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

My little girl was eight weeks early. She turns 7 tomorrow, and you'd never know she was premature. Hearing about your situation brings back a lot of memories. The people who work in Neonatal intensive care will always have my respect and gratitude. The only advice I can give is stay calm and optimistic for your wife's sake and don't give up. I look forward to hearing that your family is home from the hospital safe and sound.

You guys are in our thoughts. I know it can be tough, but stay positive.

My aunt had her daughter at 6 1/2 months.
She is now 17, speaks four languages and can pretty much go to any University she wants.

Thanks again everybody. She is doing good. Doctors seem pretty hopeful she'll make it another 7 weeks but it is a day to day thing.
