CRD just died???

My last topic post from last Monday was "Stuck ERG"

Went in to the dealership with MIL and got it back the next morning
with replaced ERG. All has been fine since then until today. I get in,
start up the CRD and all seems well/normal. I put her in reverse to
back out of the carport, make it about 5 feet and *Bam*, she abruptly
dies! No warning at all, or drop in power or anything. Just dead.
When I try to start it back up, she just spins but doesn't fire.

My warranty runs out the 21st of this month... I'll be calling the dealership
first thing in the morning but obviously this sucks!

Any ideas?

Have you tried bleeding the air out of the filter head?

Sounds like air in the fuel system...bleed bleed bleed...

Ok, thanks Sam and Darby,

I searched and looks like this post tells me how to bleed the filter (skipping
the removal part, of course):

Hope that works. I am not at home right now but once I return I'll try it out
and update the thread.

Dude, Hope you have luck with bleeding it.Eglin run is getting closer.
Just dropped mine off for what will probably be the last warranty visit.Still Squeel'n.

Thanks again, SO MUCH Sam and Darby. You were spot on.
With the help of Silica's post on changing the fuel filter, bleeding
the filter was no problem. Only took a few minutes before I had
a steady stream of diesel coming out of the bleeder screw. After
my second attempt to start it, it fired right up. Drove around the block
and all seems fine.

So, what causes the air to get in the fuel line/filter? Is it possibly related
to the ERG change the dealership performed last week or is that just
coinsidental? Is air in the fuel system a sign of something else I need
to check?

They had to remove the filter head to replace the EGR. They probably did not bleed it after they were done like you did. Good help is hard to find....especially with CRD service.

This subject has already been discussed to death but it keeps coming back to bite the rear end of those who have not yet installed lift pumps

I think the problem was the design of the filter head. I installed a Racor 245 and have no air in fuel problems at all. The Jeep starts first crank every time.
