I've read about heating from the brake rotors in previous versions of the Liberty, causing heat damage to ball joints. I took a look at the rotors on my 2008 KK and noticed some thin (approx. 1.5 mm?) aluminum shields - are these installed to dissipate heat from the rotors during braking?

Well, not only during braking but just plain driving without braking.....If you ever touched a brake rotor after cruising down the highway you'll know what I mean.....

They are not meant to be heat sinks, but rather air deflectors to mave cool fresh air across the pads and rotors and as an insulator to the ball joints/tie rod
