Dave,

That picture helped a lot. They didn't do the recall on mine based on that picture. I took it in over a year and a half ago too. Plus I just looked on the jeep site with my VIN and it shows no outstanding recalls. I love my stealership. It's an early 02 so there's no reason they shouldn't have replaced them.

Clint,

Do the aftermarket LBJ's hold up better than OEM?

Thanks

Go to your local stealership and have one of the service advisors look it up on the dealer net.

What is the advantage of MOOG balljoints if they don't hold up any better? are they greaseable?

I just had mine replaced two weeks ago under warranty. They gave me a little crap, but after they spoke with the Service Manager, he ok'd the work and I got both LBJ replaced for free.

They didnt say a word about the lift, but gave me crap for having the MTR's on the Jeep(even thought they came off another stock Jeep).

The dealership has been very good to me though since I have bought the Jeep and have not had to pay for any service there yet.

I just found this on the MOOG website:
http://www.federal-mogul.com/aftermarket/us/Bulletins/27010.pdf

It talks about a MOOG lower ball joint replacement that solves premature lower ball joint failure in the 02-05 Jeep Liberty.

Seems like MOOG has tried to address the ball joint failure with a better product, but I don't have any experience with it or it's reliability. [/url]

When my ball joints go, I'm going with the MOOG's. I havent seen any evidence they are superior to the OEM's, but DC resolution to the premature wear by adding a flimsy heat sheild doesnt raise my confidence in the OEM ball joints. From what I understand, there isnt even an improved ball joint going in, its the same one? Anyway, the MOOG's look beefier and have the greasable ball joint. Call me old school but I like being able to stuff my joints with grease!

I first had the recall performed early in '04. I wasn't that familiar with "ball joints" so figured everything was performed as it should be. Last year I noticed I didn't have heat shields so just before the Christmas holiday I stopped by and talked to a service advisor. I told him there were no heat shields and the boots were cracked on the LBJ's. He said to schedule a service after the holiday and he would "work with me". I was skeptical. But today they finally did what they should have almost two years ago. I checked the old ones last weekend and did have noticeable play. I now feel much better about them.

Mine goes in tomorrow for new uppers. Then I will double check to see if there is any play in the lowers as they are still the originals and this will be my second set of uppers in 35K.

Replaced mine with the greaseable MOOGS on New Years Day, had checked them the night before and the right one was very loose, (I have over 49000 on mine), of course tried the Dealer and I heard him laughing in the background "you got how many miles and you want me to replace them for free"! So got the lowers and did it myself. I feel safer knowing that there are greaseable, heavier joints in there now. I would not want to put the same OEMs back in even if they are free. It only cost a nickel more to go first class.
