Hey guys,

What is the lowest rim size I can go without changing breaks and such (I want to get 31" tires but the price difference between 15 and 17 is rather high, I know 17 look nice but ). Right now I am on 17" rims.

What is a good size/brand 31" tire that can be used for 85% highway, 5% city and 10% offroading. I am looking at a cross terrain type of tire (all season, but stronger sidewalls to endure back trails ...)

Some brands make a 15" steel wheel that will fit, like crager and Rock Crawler. Also some guys are running wrangler 15" wheels with wheel spacers to clear the caliper.

BFG makes a good all terrain tire. I have Pro Comp and really like them.

like Sport said some 15" steel wheels will fit or you can just get a 16" and you will know that it will fit, and for BS I would get 4"

We run the BFG MTR(245/75r/16's) on our 02 kj and we love 'em. They have the x-tra h.d. side walls. We did notice that when there was about 40% tread left on our first batch of bfg/mtr's that we had to rotate more often to soften the road noise. But cuz we got 'em installed at Big O it was free as part of pckg. I also run them in 35's on my 06rubicon t.j (35x12.50x15) on rock krawler steelies. A very aggressive tire worth their cost.

I just got new general grabber at 2's and i love them.
I had BFG AT's and I actually got 60K out of them.
the GG's I have noticed an increase already in a solid 1 mpg (2 different tanks) and much less wind noise. Now I have not had a chance to test them out yet, but we'll see...

IF you plan on wheeling your KJ, a 17" rim isn't the top choice to go with. There are several different reccomendations for offroad Rim vs. Tire size. The two most popular are to have at least double your rim size in tire (e.g., 15" rim is a 30" tire, 16" rim 32" tire, etc.), or to have at least 8" of sidewall on your rim (8x2=16.. 31" tire - 16" of sidewall = a 15" rim). Because of our calipers most of us run 16" rims. A 15" aluminum rim will not fit, some steelies will... IIRC the Soft 8 style will fit in a 15", the wagon wheel, 'D' window style will not.
