I was thinking of sending out a rev. of circuit boards and piggy backing on some other stuff I'm sending out at work. So, I was wondering if there are any updated schematics or if the ones posted at the beginning of this thread are sufficient. Also, I don't want to skirt around you all who have put in so much work already, just trying to save a little money and i was wondering if there is any "donations" I could make to the designers.

I got the second run version of the SEGR installed about 4.000 miles ago. No problems until last week. The truck began a vibration upon decelerating. I thought it might be TC but sifting to nuetral while decelerating did not change it. It finally sent a P0402 code indicating EGR problem. I cleared the code, plugged in the jumper, and drove it to town. Initially, it still had the vibration but no codes came up. By the time I got to town (10 Mile +/-) the problem was cleared up completely. I plugged back into the SEGR and no problem so far.

I am wondering if, since the EGR has no power when the SEGR is in the circuit, the valve could work itself open causing some exaust gas in the intake at all times and could cause the vibration discribed. By plugging in the bypass plug, the normal operation of the EGR may have ended up closing the valve again and all is well. Thanks to the CEL code directing my attention in that direction, it may have been easily solved. I was thinking TC, brake rotors & pads, u-joint replacement, bad tire, etc. without much thought to the EGR. I don't know if this is possible but something caused the vibration and CEL code that went away soon after installing the jumper plug and remains solved after putting the SEGR back on line. Maybe we need to plug in the bypass, for a short time, once in a while. Any other ideas? :?:

Yes it can blow open, mine did and it got stuck, watch out for it coz your engine gets real hot when this happens under load, ie going up a hill. Granted its coz the spring got weak or something and so its not the fault of SEGR, BUT, you dont know about because the warning is disabled. SEGR is a good thing but you do have to be alert to this possibility.

I finally got around to installing the SEGR. After install, I got 2 codes. I don't recall the numbers, but one was short circuit for EGR circuit and other was short circuit of the MAF circuit. I unplugged it, put in the jumpers and haven't had a chance to look at it again. I figure I must have the input/output to the box backwards. Any thoughts??

If you can post the exact codes, that would be useful. But offhand (did I build your box?) it sounds like you may have wired it into your harness incorrectly. There is no way to wire the EGR short - it is permanently disconnected. And the MAF may be reversed, that is a common wiring error.

I wrote a set specifically for installing boxes and harnesses that I built. PM me with your email address and I can sent them to you. They are a bit light on pictures, but I think they may be adequate.

This is weird. I didn't write down the codes the first time, but I remember them by description. They where P0490 and P0103. So I hooked it up yesterday to comfirm the codes. Got 403 and 1140. This morning, I tried again and low and behold it seemed to work. No codes. The large resistor got warm after a few minutes of running. I did serveral cranks and re-checked codes. All was good. So I unplugged it to put the cover on the box and a few other things. Plugged it back in and got the 490 code again and it won't go away. Also, when I start it, it throws 102 (MAF is plgged in). I also briefly had 1140 again, but it when away. Any hwlp would be greatly appreciated.

tin man,

i have found that if you unplug and replug the box in too soon after shutdown,
you get codes (found this out by switching known good boxes)... run it plugged
in for a few days and note any changes

hope that is what it is

*edit* after reading through more of the thread..
make sure you didn't get your MAF wires switched... they are opposite the others
I.E. say one end is negative (3,6,9) and the other is positive (2.5,8)

6,9 come from the ECU, 5,8 go to the component
the MAF is opposite... 3 from MAF, 2 to ECU
(not saying that those numbers are right just an illistration)

I mixed those up and got MAF codes

Getting the wires backwards was my first thought. But if that where the case how could it run any length of time without setting codes as it did earlier today?

Just a note to those of you running ORM and imune to CEL light.
Scanned mine a while back and found code for #3 glow plug.
Pulled & replaced #3 glow plug. It was cracked the entire length of ceramic!!
 If this had broken off it would have been time to pull head!!!!!!!!

The codes could be delayed. Still kinda weird how it's different codes at different times. Could I just plug it up and drive it a little while and see? Wouldn't it be just like the ORM? Can those codes harm the SEGR?

Hi,
I added a simple SEGR tester circuit here:

This sounds similar to one of the first installers of this box. I believe there is a wiring error in the harness.

Loco, Tim, UFO, GMCTD, et al

I finally built the circuit board, wired it up, installed it and it worked the first time. I did a lot of reading on this board and assimilated all the tips and lessons-learned. So, given that the EGR lead is open (pin 5 is open) then I suppse it is working as advertised. No CEL at anytime. The box is getting a little warm where the power resistor is located. So, thanks to all of you as the idea of an EGR on the CRD is a bad one. Congress and EPA!!!!

Now, I will start working on my Provent. Any tips on how to improve the intake airflow as well would be appreciated. I know I need to do the Magnaflow as also.

Thanks to all here on inventing and proliferating the SEGR.

Is pin 1 of your box shorted to ground or miswired? Did you swap pin 1 with pin 2, or wire pin 1 to the ECU instead of to the MAF? Is your MAF plugged in?

Lots of things to check. You could email or post close up pictures of both sides of your PCB, and we could tell if you assembled the board correctly.

Yep sounds like you swapped SEGR wire #1 and SEGR wire #2 somewhere and maybe something else too. I would double check the connections where you spliced into the jeep harness to make sure everything is going to the right wire. It is a pretty common error to accidently swap either 1 & 2, 4 & 5, and/or 7 & 8.
