Yes, put the discontinued filter for a Ford Focus on your Jeep. It may fit but it doesn't make it right. What's the bypass valve opening psi rated at? I'm not saying the Fl-2005 is a bad filter, it's just not right for the application. Fram lists a different filter for the CRD than it does for the 3.7. Chrysler does also. Wonder why?
Exactly. Some of the filter brands didn't spec a separate filter for our diesel - they just simply listed the same filter that fits the 3.7 V6 gas engine - for the simple reason that both engines use the same thread and gasket size for the oil filter - they saved themselves a few bucks by not having to make another style filter.
Purolator is the cheapest alternative that actually makes a specific filter for our CRD's, that matches the OEM filter in physical construction and layout. Fram does also, but then in my book Fram isn't even worth mentioning.
