It's a simple matter of volume: the volume of oil in the vapor is small, yet the volume of the vapor/time is large - requires a large pass-thru containment area and filter to handle the vapor volume in order to remove a small efluent of liquid oil - think x-number cfm vapor over 3mos time vs the ~1/8-cup of oil needing draining at that time

Reason there's no hose clamps on the factory CCV hose is that there's nothing to restrict flow once it leaves the puck on the valve cover.

If you choke off the CCV hose, the blowby gases can build up enough pressure in the crankcase and valve cover to end up blowing out seals and gaskets.

That's why there's a relief valve built into the cap of the Provent - in case the filter becomes clogged or you have water freeze up in the lines during winter.

I've spent quite a bit of time designing and fitting different types of systems now and the Provent seems to be the answer for closed venting and the EHM for open venting. Fortuneately our emission controls are not enforced so much so the EHM for me is the cheaper although messier of the two options.

Hopefully my paranoia over the CCV is something of the past, thanks for all the input 8)

I bought this stuff a few days ago and thought I would give it a go.
The plastic parts $22 and the hoses $13. You can probably get it cheaper though.
I live on an Island in Canada and everything is expensive here.

^^^ That's virtually identical to the piece I made last year. It's working great.

Exactly where the idea came from, thanks.
I just exploded it to show others and for parts collection.

For a new guy, Squeeto, you sure do nice show'n'tell work - attaboy! And, there's the venerable TCM - tells me alot more about your vehicle than you have, tho I don't think you'll be needing much help with your KJ...........................

Instead of the ball valve, how difficult is it to return feed to the sump.

1) you have to remember where gmctd hid the pictures
scroll down past the EGT
http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=361072#361072
2) drill a hole in the block.

(I kinda stopped before #2 - my Provent only needs to drain about 1 oz/ 1000 miles - not a big deal and I really don't like to drill holes in the engine

Finally found a supplier of decent quality T's and put something together.

I'm thinking of going the bigger route as per the last pic but i would need to reduce for the hoses to fit although the volume would be greater than the one i built in 25mm and would probably do a better job at filtering.
The problem with the larger 35mm one is finding a place to fit it as it is a bit bulky.

You painted the blue end caps or is the pic from someone else?
I considered painting but wasn't sure what would stick to the PVC and endure the heat and oil.

Are you referring to the picture of my vehicle, hand and PVC CCV? What about the TCM?

No the T with blue end caps is the bigger version of what i'm currently working on. I used the black T with the black end caps as per the first two pics.

I suppose you could use a high heat paint if you wanted to get fancy.

I'll edit the post and add your name to the pic; it is a little confusing.

I have yet to add the parts to my truck.

Okay, the black T with black end caps is a 25mm inlet and outlet which is the one i'm currently using as per the first two pics.

The Black T with the blue end caps has a 32mm inlet and outlet and a larger capacity to filter. I just need to find some reducers to fit the 20mm hoses and some real estate in the engine bay to fit it, probably on the aircon heater.

BTW - there is nothing wrong with what you have bought.
Hope that has helped a bit.

I like the idea of the clear hose for the drain tube. Lets you see exactly when it is time to drain.
Although, from what I read, not much oil gets collected anyway. Essentially drain every oil change interval.

Un-attributed photos do tend to confuse - anyway, the visible label on TCM indicates the hardware\software revision level, and coincidentally, the year model of the KJ - altho the SIG is usually used to indicate the owners prowess and the wished-for size of his manhood, it is mainly to give vehicle specifics, so very necessary when implementing procedural troubleshooting aids, and when providing example of what may be accomplished within that floorplan - and, yes, size matters: 2" larger dameter tires will give you 1" more ground clearance.......................
