I posted this on the other site in response to a question, but figured it was good info to share with everyone here too.

After having 2 regulators replaced on my 2007 KJ, I asked the service manager if they could go ahead and replace the other 2 while it was there. He declined, but did tell me a hint to help keep them from breaking in the future, or at least extend the life of them. He said to make sure you regularly clean out the window tracks - especially after dust storms (here in TX) or any other dirty/sloppy weather. He also suggested spraying the window tracks from top to bottom on all 4 windows with a silicone lube spray. I have done this for a while, and it seems to help (knock on wood). If you pay attention, you can usually tell when the track is getting dirty and sticking. If the window hesitates or slows at all when raising, make sure you clean it out and re-lube it ASAP. I have caught mine a couple of times starting to stick. Then cleaned and re-lubed and it is all good again and did not break.

Just my .02. Hope it helps y'all in the future.

Make sure to clean all windows tracks out with a wet rag.

Then after they have all been wiped clean, allow the excess water to dry. Then spray each of the tracks with a silicone lube spray as shown below.

Sounds like some good preventative maintanence. I have to wonder though if this could be counterproductive because I know dust sticks to WD-40. It might help for a while but might also compound the problem in the long run. Be wary of service managers, they don't always have the best advice, just want to get rid of you and put band-aids on the problem. Knowwhatimean? Don't mean to sound negative, just thought this might provoke some further thought.

Great right up, by the way.

In 118,000 miles

I have never cleaned out the window tracks.

One regulator died about a month and a half ago.

There is a bigger issue with the 05-7s, period.

Don't use WD40. Use a silicone lube. The primary use of WD40 is in it's name...Water Displacement. I also found that the track inside the door needs lubrication. I had a window that was noisy and ready to break. I put some grease on the track, ran it up and down a few times and all has been well.

I never thought about the track at the top section of the door. I'll clean and lube them....THANKS!

Terry

More people misuse WD-40 than use it....Nasty stuff....

Good tips, guys.

I thought everyone did this already  , been doing it on the window tracks on my rigs for I don't know eighteen/twenty years now, just part of my regular monthly maintenance
guess I never thought to say anything before
I guess its little tricks you learn in a dealership to try and make people happy without spending all day listening to their crap

Thanks for the tip, as I will try anything. What we really need is a better quality after market regulator that we can replace ourselves after our warranties expire.
BTW, nice seat covers. What kind are they, where did you get them, and how much$ ?
Thanks.....
