LI_KJ, sometimes a negative turns into a positive. :D I’m glad you could take advantage of the sale. 8) POST some PIC’s when you’re finished!

what better time to put on a new bumper.
I ordered my ARB from Rustys for $1020 shipped to NY two days ago. Pleasure to deal with them. I will post some pics when I get it installed in the next week.

Are you on stock springs? If so that will be a problem for you.

I am on the stock suspension. But I figure since I'm not putting a winch in right away and im going to be upgrading to a Frankenlift and larger tires, I should be ok with the extra weight for a little while. If I get really bogged down I can always upgrade to medium dutys till I get the franky installed. The good thing about buying the bumper is, Uhauls insurance paid for the ARB. I just need to replace the light assembly and turn signal. I will post pics when complete.

LI_KJ, you should be okay for a while. You may experience some driving awkwardness, but I wouldn’t worry about it. I’ve never heard the official weight for the KJ ARB bumper, but most people say it weighs around 80 lbs. That’s not enough weight to hinder you. Many times people mistake the shipping weight for the actual weight of the bumper.

ARB "BUMPERS are approx. 80lbs each. Freight weight is 150lbs."

I wouldn't drive it much over a very few thousand miles before upgrading to heavier springs, it will sag FAST! Trust me

I agree that it will add additional stress to the springs and eventually weaken the springs, however, some springs are more resilient and seem to hold up better than others. From my research, there seems to be several “different” factory springs (spring rates) made for the KJ. What Jeep didn’t tell us, is that some of us got a more heavy duty spring. For example: I learned that those who got the “off-road” package or “towing” package got more heavy duty springs. There is some debate that the “off-road” package and “towing” package even have different springs. On the other hand, my 2007 Limited “trail-rated” (Selec-Trac) got the “softer” more luxury springs, add yes, it was an added option. Just because you have a “trail-rated” badge, doesn’t mean that you have the “off-road” package. Those who got the off-road package also got stronger springs and a heavy-duty cooling fan. My 2007 also has the additional transmission cooler and it doesn’t have the tow package. Interesting huh? My point is this: We can’t assume that all KJ’s will have the same results when adding a bumper to the stock springs. :D

I don't plan on taking the KJ offroad at all until I upgrade the suspension with the ARB on. I know it will sag, but I'm not too worried as I expect to have the lift on by feburary. The stock suspension is pretty shot already from driving on the potholed streets of NYC and I usually carry a few 50 lb downhill mountain bikes on the hitch and roofracks. I just thought that it was an ideal time to get the bumper since I needed to replace it anyways, and it's paid for. I didn't want to spend the money on a new bumper skinnow, when I was planning to upgrade it down the road. Ideally I would have liked to lift, then do the bumper, but when oppurtunity knocks, you gotta answer. Thanks for the concern over the sagging, and I look forward to learning more about my KJ through the knowledge of this forum.

There is most certainly many different spring rates but NONE are worth a crap after 25000 miles anyways, just stating that he will have to upgrade sooner than later with a bumper hanging out there. I don't care if its a KJ/Dodge full size pick up or a Ford
but go for it post pics in 2 months  I am new to all of this lifting and modifying these here Jeep vehicles :? :o

I guess I'm officially joining the ARB club. Look what came in today- an early present from Santa. Tomorrow I go down to the shop and have that thing painted and then mount the beast. Still gotta figure out what lights to hook up too...

I ordered a TJM for $450. It came today, on my birthday. not as strong as an ARB but looks like a good unit. I don't want a lot of extra weight on the front of my CRD, so no winch for me, and the TJM is only about 100 lbs. It's at the paint shop so I'll try to post some pics after the install, which looks to be interesting, poor directions. I'm used to that from installing a lot of great German parts on my motorcycles with crappy instructions.

I ordered last Monday and it just got in today. So a week total to ship. I think I will be very happy with it once it's on my KJ!

No pics of the install for me. Since it was covered under insurance, I'm having the shop that is painting it also mount the thing. Hopefully by next week if they aren't too busy. I nearly pulled my back out carrying that thing up and down the 4 story walkup apartment building where I live. After bringing it to the shop to get painted, they told me to come back next week and they can get 'er done. Thankfully a friend offered his garage space because to store it because, there was NO way I was carrying that thing back up those stairs!
