I'm afraid the airfare might be a little high on that plan - but I'd love the trip.

(and I was searching NAPA and some of the slotted disks - they were a bit higher so I rounded to $100 - I did not check
AutoZone - although they're just around the corner)

So $100 for a set of 2 rotors then? Not $100 each...

I started with Daystar (it was the only thing that would work for the diesel)
but I changed to OME when the 790 springs came out

The concern with Daystar is that you compress the springs enough that any bump can cause metal to metal contact - metal to metal will kill the spring rate and cause it to sag.

If you have long enough bumpstops - it won't compress far enough to hit metal to metal.
(I didn't - still need to get some)

Did you change your shocks when you did the coils?

I started with Ranchos on the Daystar and then changed to OME with the OME springs

The OME ride is great by the way - even though it's 500 lbs/in instead of the stock 410 lbs/in
it doesn't feel stiff - it's firm but you can tell the suspension is working.

(Ranchos weren't bad but they had more problems with the diesel weight -
there were certain roads where they didn't control as well)

I was thinking of the slotted cryos for the front - they're about $130/each - but NAPA for the rears ~$60/each
so $100 average for 4

Wow, that sounds a bit expensive for front only, shop around if you haven't done the job yet, might be an option to have someone send you the parts from across the pond.

Fully agree , 'should have got it from a shop in the US but its done already.
Actually I am also a bit suprised to have to replace the whole front at just 37'000miles...
Isn't that too early ?

Difficult to say depends on many factors but for the record i had my front disc and pads replaced at my 40000km service

Well - I have to drive 900 miles to get to a mountain - so my brakes don't get a lot of long downhill wear
but I'm at 66,000 miles - on original pads - and there's still some left

If you were to look at all of the posts on here regarding brakes I think you would find that the majority of US 4 wheel disc brake Liberty owners find that their rears wear out first, often because they stick and drag but others just because. Mine wore out on the rears and damaged the rotors too because of the drag and were replaced under warranty but I am doing just fine on the fronts with over 50K miles.

I'm hard on brakes. I expect 20k to 30k on a set of pads.

Reading your comments. I guess my 37K miles are not too bad knowing that i drive a lot in the Alps.
Also, i must say that it made some real improvement in my ability to stop
I guess it is easy to get use to a progressive worn out and it was really the time to replace these brakes !

Speaking of the Alps, brings back memories of visiting the "Jungvrou"
sorry probably haven't spelt it correctly, but that took my breath away.

My front pads were fine at 34,000 but the rears were thin so I replaced them with ceramic pads. Now days the rotors are not thick enough to survive a rotor turning by an auto parts store BRAIN STEM and be legal. A competent machine shop machinist can turn a rotor so it can be reused, but you will not find some one like that working for a Suburban big chain parts store that asks if your chain saw has air conditioning before they can sell you a spark plug.

Service tip: If you have the popular alloy spoke wheels, you can inspect the outside pad with out pulling the wheel. Metal backing plates are about 3/16" / 4mm thick and hang out past the friction pad surface. I replace the pads when the friction part is 3/32" / 2mm thick. If the rotors are flat and do not have ridges higher than 0.002"/ 0.05mm, I don't bother have the rotors turned since I live in an area where the competent automotive machinists are making good money doing more complex tasks than turning brake rotors.

If you want the rear pads last longer, use full time 4X4 in slick conditions so the ESC does not apply the brakes to stop the spinning
